Clark Hunt wanted to keep Scott Pioli

Expect Little From “Media” Member Pioli
June 20, 2013 - Bob Gretz | Comments (14)

It happened near the end of the disastrous 2012 Chiefs season. Whether the moment came during a face-to-face meeting or over a conference call isn’t known. But the key members of the Hunt Family football franchise took a vote.

The voters numbered six, including Lamar Jr., Sharron, Clark and Daniel Hunt – all four of the team’s owners. Also part of the moment was Lee Derrough, former president & CEO of Hunt Midwest Enterprises and now a trustee of the Lamar Hunt and family interests in Kansas City. The sixth person involved was team president Mark Donovan.

The subject was the future of Scott Pioli as the franchise’s general manager. How much discussion, if any, that went on is not clear. What is known is that a vote was taken on whether to keep Pioli, or fire him after four years in charge of the Chiefs.

The vote was 5-1, in favor of dumping Pioli. The only vote in his favor came from Clark Hunt. …Read More!

So it's kind of like a 8-1 decision on the Supreme Court... The law is being contested / nullified in some way but one justice votes no to be able to say his peace in the dissent.

As much as I feel at home railing on the regime... Perhaps a lot of blame shouldn't be leveled at Clark as the lone dissenter in this vote.

Now, had he and some other unknown or jerkoff voted to keep him then it's an issue.

But seriously.. Who holds a vote that can end up in an even split?

Why are we pretending like this is some new ****ing information? Of course Clark wanted to keep Scooter, why else would of his stupid fat face been around for Head Coach Search 2013?

Luckily, Clark wanted a coach that didn't suck more than his gay crush.

Yep. So easy to sit back in KC and wallow in the shit when everyone around you is wearing red and herp-derping about. TOTALLY different when you live out of state and have to defend the indefensible.

I call bullshit, Clark knew what the verdict had to be looong before he voted, even if he did vote that way as a token gesture of some kind of misplaced, old fashioned loyalty.

Kevin Keitzman is not a football mind in my book, he's not even in Gretz' area code for all things football.
That's not the point. You brought up that people that lie may not be in the media room anymore. He pointed out that Keitzman lies all the time and is in the room. Whether Keitzman is a football mind is irrelevant to the part of the discussion that you yourself started.

I don't know what to think here. It's not impossible that a family member told someone and that person told Gretz. But I don't think you can say that Gretz wouldn't be allowed in the media room if he was lying and then shrug off the point that another media member is in the room when he is a manipulative liar himself.

This.

I'd maybe buy the 'Clark was the one descending vote to show it wasn't unanimous' narrative, but I can't buy the notion that Clark is foolish enough to want Pioli to stay above all else.

OR maybe, if Reid had wanted Pioli to stay in an 'errand boy' like role that he played in NE - Clark would have allowed that given the dollars he had invested in Pioli. I can't believe that Clark, or anyone else, thought that to be very likely though.

I don't think Clark Hunt is this stupid.

What matters is that every thing that Pioli did wrong, Hunt made an obvious attempt to fix it. He hired several coaches outside of his or Reid's tree. Hired a quality GM (even if he's still being tested). Hired a big name coach. And went above and beyond to lift the ridiculous media blackout.

So I honestly don't care how he voted. You don't make those kinds of mass changes unless you knew the problem existed.

I don't understand your point.

Hunt brought Pioli along and then hired a coach everyone knew Pioli didn't want, and who everyone knew would only come if Pioli wasn't part of the picture. Don't forget that while all this was happening, he was negotiating a buyout.

He'd probably trade two seconds for an average veteran QB and take a RT with the first pick in the draft. Glad that didn't happen.

No he wouldn't.

He'd take the RT and tell us Matt Cassel is good QB who just needed better protection.
