Looking at pellet grills...anyone have one?

There is a Traeger dealer locally as well as a Louisiana grill dealer, anyone know of another type of pellet grill that may be a bit more affordable??? These suckers are high-dollar. The lil Tex Traeger is over $700 bucks.

I have The Professional. Great friggen investment, well worth it. Everyone I know who has one loves it. Two best investments I ever made was this grill and a temperpedic mattress.

I know I want one and I know I will use it but are they really "all that"?? Is it just a convenience thing or is the food THAT much better? I keep telling myself that my grill is just fine and that the food is just as good....hmmmm. Either way thanks for the input.

ok, I'm a grilling noob. How do these things work? I've never had food come off of a pellet grill so what does it do? is it like an easy to use smoker? fill me in! I'm gonna be in the market for a new grill this summer and may have to consider one of these.

Convenience and it does taste better. I ordered the digital themostat as well. The reasons it is better is that you have a wide variety of different pellets for flavor. Smoking fish is off the charts and very easy. Of course there is the flip it on and your running convenience. The food is much smokier than a grill and much easier to use than other smokers. The digital thermostat lets you control temperature and walk away which is really nice especailly when smoking over a long period of time. All these combined make it a great investment. Don't throw out the grill though. I still need that to crisp my chicken wings. Gas works fine for that. Hope this helps. The dealer should have samples to show you how much better the flavor is. They usually do that to move product during the season. Ask them about that.

Yes it does. I am a bigger guy too so it has helped my back and neck tremendously. The only 2 down sides are price and having to sleep on other mattresses on the road. By far the most comfortable bed I have ever laid on. Go to a dealer and check it out. I will never own another mattress.

Thanks, I don't care about the price, though I won't tell the sales weasel that.

The cool thing about the Traeger (the one I know more about) is the automatic pellet feed. You buy a big bag of wood pellets (many flavors of wood to choose from) and you load them into the hopper and the auger feeds them into the heating mechanism automatically at a predetermined rate/speed so as to control the temp. With some of the extra add-ons it's almost idiot proof and it's practically set it and walk away. They have remote temp gauges so you can monitor the temp from inside the house too. Pellets are not cheap but not real pricey either.

Be sure you get the real deal. There are some knock off memory foam mattresses out there. I had a friend get one after sleeping on the real deal and he brought it back. It wasn't even close. I think it was a Visco or something.

Thanks for this thread.
I bought a Traeger Grill last weekend. I got a Lil' Tex for $599 on sale.
Grilling steaks has never been easier. My wife likes to marinate steaks and on other grills you get a lot of flame ups. With this grill the drip plate seperates the flame from the grill surface so no more flame up. I made ribs last night and they were unbelievable. Grilled them for an hour to give them a little crisp then smoked em' for an hour in foil. The bones were pulling out of the meat just trying to pick them up.

I've had my traeger for about 2 years. Absolutely love it. The flavor from the pellets is amazing. I thought I would miss the taste of charcoal but the taste from the pellets is much better. You are going to love it.
