Montell Cozart has appeared on the two-deep. (Redshirt appears ready to be pulled)

Should be an interesting Saturday.

That was the whole point of it though, to fatten Chunky Charlie's wallet before he retires and if he did ok, to set his son Chunky Jr up with a job in coaching. If it doesn't work out then he gets $12.5million to retire on. If it does, his son gets a job.

It was a no-lose proposition for Team Chunky.

Weis was a terrible hire. Not rubbing noses, just stating what my opinion was at the time of the hire and is now. The basis is he was a colossal failure at Notre Dame and fielded probably the worst team in that schools history (2007) and couldn't do better than the Aloha Bowl with his own players thereafter. Winning at KU is much harder than Notre Dame. IMO this was completely foreseeable due to the aforementioned.

I think you can do it if you have a machine up and running similar to what's going on at Oregon. Obviously this is not KU's situation.

Weis is either letting go on his own or getting told to let go.

I think it's the exact opposite. NFL coordinators expect to be able to outsmart college coaches...but you don't have to fool people if you can execute the simple stuff.

Don't show me how smart you are. Make the other guy show that he can stop you before you get cute.

I disagree. On the phog board, there was a huge thread from a bunch of ND posters that talked about the recruiting issues that WIllingham had created. By the time Charlie got to his third year, after coming in late his first year, he had tremendous issues with his offensive and defensive lines. He had recruited well, but he had no upper classmen linemen in his ranks to fill after his Bowl teams graduated. The guys that Willingham recruited either transferred or couldn't stay academically eligible. He had to play underclassmen or scrub upperclassmen on his lines and they couldn't get it done. As it was ND, he also couldn't go out and get JuCo players either. So he went to KC... and turned Matt Cassel into a Pro Bowl quarterback. He didn't get along with Haley (who did? God knows they're loving him in Pittsburg) so he went to Florida. The QB got hurt, and the offense didn't perform well.

Kansas is never going to become a football juggernaut. We might get to a point where we can compete. We have to get some horses in the stable, and that doesn't happen right away, and it sure as hell doesn't happen when you change coaches every two years because you have a delusional fan base that thinks KU can become K-State in two years. How long did it take Snyder to build that program?

In the meantime, we just have to be who we are. We'll build where we can, and hopefully catch a few breaks. We'll have to recruit better, and we're sure as hell getting better talent than we ever did under Gill. We've stolen a couple of recruits, and we'll start to get a few things going our way. We're two games into the conference season, and Rome wasn't built in a day.

Charlie Weis was at Notre Dame from 2005-2009. Some of his recruits while there include:

Jimmy Clausen
Golden Tate
Michael Floyd
Kyle Rudolph
Manti Te'o
Tyler Eifert
Sam Young

I'd like to see what Cozart can do. The running element of the QB is so important in college and Heaps just can't do it.

Of course, Mangino beat KSU his third year. And 3 of the next 4 games after that too. In addition KSU is 0-3 this year already so it's not like other teams aren't beating them. It's possible Kansas is the only team in conference they blow out.

Outside of the top-20 or so programs it'll always be hard to compete consistently. But you should be respectable at least every other year. Mason and Mangino were so if Weis can't, he needs to step aside for someone like them.

There's always player attrition when you change coaches. All you're doing is making excuses for him.

Notre Dame in it's illustrious history was never bombed into submission on a weekly basis by also rans the way they were under Weis that year and never got much better. His only success there was w/ an experienced team built & developed by someone else.

http://www.cfbdatawarehouse.com/data...ly_results.php

That '07 team couldn't execute fundamental things like snapping the ball properly or tackling.

I'm not suggesting KU should fire him two years into a rebuild b/c of his current record there. I'm suggesting he never should have been hired, he's never going to turn it around b/c he's a terrible HC and eventually that's what is going to happen as a result.

It's hard to win at KU but it can be done....by someone who knows what they're doing.

I wonder if Snyder's pending retirement affected recruitment. Everybody knew KSU was getting a new coach, and Prince turned out to be a mediocre hire at best.

There are differences between reasons and excuses. We're on different sides of this so obviously what I consider to be a reason you're going to look at as an excuse. I can't change your perspective on it. Oh well...

Fans have been clamoring for an offensive coordinator. Or at least an assistant who calls plays on game days. Charlie can still be somewhat involved in the game plan during the week. Some guys just can't handle being HC and a coordinator. Doesn't necessarily mean they are bad at either separately.
