Santa gave me money for an iPod; I bought a Zune instead.
Let's see:

It has allows downloads of iTunes OR proprietary mP3s.

It has a bigger color screen than the 30 gig iPod.

It has an FM Tuner.

So I took the dive....anyone else bought a Zune?

I know they are "new;" but with Microsoft behind them....I suspect/hope that they've done their homework.

man...I have this bitchin 8 track player that cranks out the toons...if you take out the matchbox from under one side of the tape you can hear two songs at once...whoa, freak you out man!

"Santa" got my daughter a ipod nano for Chirstmas and she was listening to it yesterday when all of the sudden it froze up. Completly. The screen is stuck and none of the buttons work. There is no reset button and I can't take the battery out.
Any suggestions?

Drain all the power before charging it again. Then, plug it in to charge it and you should be good to go. If it keeps happening, you should take it back to the store.

If duct tape, a hammer, wd-40, or superglue doesnt fix it...then take it back to the store

Check to make sure the "hold switch" isn't turned on and if it's not then try resetting the ipod. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61705

No, it doesn't. The ipod doesn't convert anything. The iTunes app CAN convert files, but it doesn't do it unless you tell it to. Any music you buy from the iTunes store will be in copyprotected format unless you find a crack to convert it to mp3, but music you rip from your own CD's or download with filesharing software will be unlimited.

You're partially right. ITunes automatically converts wma files to it's own format. MP3 files remain mp3's however.

I used a program called Easy CD-DA extractor to convert apple's m4p files to mp3.

I started running a couple months ago and bought a Nano. Apple sells reconditioned ones on their website so I got the 2GB one for $100, free shipping.

You'd never know it wasn't brand new either. Not a scratch on it, it looked perfect and contained all the manuals and everything. The only thing I didn't get was the fancy box, which I'm not sure I would have paid $50 extra for.

Reconditioned ones are definitely worth a look. It takes the Apple tax off the retail price.
