ESPN's 32% ratings crash - layoffs happening

I watch it quite a bit because I love college basketball and watch the MLB during the summer. Also I think the 30-For-30 movies are all quite good. So I'm watching more than I ever have, but apparently nobody else is:

Yeah, I don't turn on a sports network to see a bunch of lame, wannabe comedians.

You can't compare share-of-cost channel rates to a la carte rates. It's a completely different deal.
Which is why I noted that the a la carte rate for ESPN would be higher than the inclusive.

I think you vastly underestimate how much it would cost for them to offer it a la carte and keep their overall revenues the same. I'd be absolutely dumbfounded if more than 1 in 10 households would be willing to pay more than $5 for ESPN, which means your equivalent cost would be more like $50/month. That's why TV stations are adamantly against a la carte models.

As it is, your enjoyment of ESPN is being subsidized by all the people out there who don't give a shit about it. That's why the $5/month price is considered to be outrageously high.

ESPN is going the way of MTV. They don't show sports anymore, just stupid shows.

Bring back world's strongest man and old home run derbys. Show me some sports I wouldn't normally see like some lacrosse or rugby. I can only take so many NBA dunks.

If I want NFL, I go to the NFL Network.
If I want the NHL, ....well, I sure as hell don't go to ESPN.

If I want a full frontal lobotomy and shitty coverage about Lakers, Heat, Jets, Patriots, and Cowboys bullshit drilled into whatever space is left between my ears, then I go to ESPN.

Yeah, no disrespect DTLB but I get a different vibe. Tom ALWAYS has pretty level-headed takes and I'd have guessed that Berman has no issue with the Chiefs whatsoever.

The only guy on TV that seems to blatantly hate on the Chiefs is Sharpe.

I believe Mark Schlereth was a former Bronco as well and even he seems to be pretty neutral about the Chiefs..

Hope they don't have Chris Berman do the home run contest again. His back back back back back back back is over played.

I miss ABC's Wide World of Sports. I wanna see obscure shit. Ski jumping, badmitton, mountain biking, etc.

The local radio stations are just as bad. It's July and all they can talk about is football. Gator football. ugh.

ESPN's Rundown:

5 mins of highlights and scores
25 mins of analysis of "what was going through LaBron James head when he scored the winning FG to seal the championship"
5 more mins of the same highlights and scores
10 mins of how unbelieveable Peyton Manning/Tom Brady/Robert Griffin III is.
4 mins for top plays
10 mins of "What Kobe Bryant meant when he said Dwight Howard sucks - let's bring in our NBA expert to discuss"
1 min to discuss all other ongoings in sports.

And the obvious bias towards certain teams in nauseating.
