If not #1, where?
The draftniks keep saying that Geno Smith isn't worth the #1 pick.
None of them say he isn't the top QB in the class though.
If we don't take him at #1 how far is he realistically going to fall?

I see no scenario where he falls out of the Top 10.

So if he's the top QB in a weak class...
QB is our biggest need...
And he's gonna go Top 10 anyway...

Why not at #1?

Am I wrong to say he won't fall out of the Top 10?

I get that you don't like Geno, thats fine. I do think it's funny that you've progressed from the "he can't make reads" wait he does in that video, "it's all Tavon" wait thats actually a rushing play, "he doesn't have a high football IQ".

I just want to know if Geno, who the vast majority sees as being the best QB in the draft, is not worth the #1 pick then who is?

I have no problem with trading down. But you had better be 100% guaranteed to end up with that #1 QB. No number of 2nd/3rd round picks is worth missing out on the best the draft has to offer in the most important position.

Are you kidding? Geno looked like an absolute world-beater through the first 5 or 6 games. He had some problems in a couple Big 12 games, but his stats still look spectacular.

We're not talking about people who didn't follow college, then one day looked around, said "we need a QB in the worst way! Who is the best? I guess its Geno".

You are talking to people, like myself, who watched a lot of his games and never came off the bandwagon since the college season began.

now those are results of interest -- not "throwing at the combine" as you said in a different post.

What matters to scouts & NFL staffs is the collegiate QB performances. Wins are good, but still not at the crux of what NFL teams scout in college QBing. They look for QB's that have focus, mental strength to come from behind, footwork and improvement in those areas of mechanics throughout their college play, gamers -- guys that can trick defenses, quick drops & quick releases, accuracy is a big focus... a long list I'm sure you are well verse in and could easily add to.

Geno has the most upside of all these QB's, most will agree, including you I'm guessing.

Imo the combine gives some perspective of general athletic abilities such as run speed, quickness and coordination, core/body strength etc. The wonderlic has some bearing also, but I don't believe any of these aspects from combine testing is as important as collegiate works. It gives NFL staffs some more time to spend with these players as well, and it becomes a bit more revealing as this is mere days before their big date with the draft, so focus becomes intense for both parties.

I agree with you when you say we really don't know if Geno Smith is the best QB and/or the right #1 pick, but for now, I don't see anyone putting up the kind of detailed argument for other players.

We see the Bray/Wilson fans posting win results, but again, wins are not the most important aspect of drafting a QB to play in the NFL.

Case in point; Brian Griese, son of former NFL HOF QB Bob Griese, went undefeated during his senior season for the wolverines. He was the MVP in the rose bowl, a game he handily won which capped off a perfect season for the young QB. He was drafted 3rd round that year and he never could put anything together in the NFL.

There are other examples, but I'll leave my point at that. Wins are definitely indicative, but not paramount in scouting a QB for the NFL.

I may change my mind as to which QB is the guy for this team in this coming draft. But right now, I don't see any reason to choose any other player than Geno. Not for the Chiefs. To me, they need to start a draft run on QB's the way they have made a run at DL guys over the past 12 years. If the Chiefs are going to compete in the NFL ever again, they need to do that because they have neglected the position for so long, I don't believe the Hunts have any idea why they fail so badly year after year.
