Off Season Lets Talk Guns

Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

One day my friend in the Air Force (major in the security forces) was at the pistol range with his boss, a Lieutenant Colonel. His boss shot himself in the calf while drawing his pistol. Said at first he just stood there, looking at the hole in his pants, which were bloused into his boots. My friend got him to sit down, untucked the pants and was then greeted by a torrent of blood from the wound. He made a full recovery, but was so humiliated by the incident - a decorated combat veteran command-level officer shooting himself at the range - that he retired almost immediately. And of course the story spread like wildfire.

Ouch on multiple fronts. Certainly made me feel better about my refrigerator incident.

I guess the moral of the story is be careful - even the best trained and most experienced can get burned by a careless second.

I have noticed a huge price difference in the "Name" that you buy. Is there any substantial reason for the difference, i.e. better quality of metal, wood, synthetic, or is it really just the name that makes a price difference.
The Cheapist 25-06 I have found is around $300. The most expensive is around $1400. Niether had scopes or slings or anything extra.
Should I avoid a particular brand?
Hear is a very nice S&W 25-06 for sale. $375.00 / I bet he will come down if it sits for a few days.

So, my wife finally gave me the okay for an AR purchase. I'm not looking to spend a fortune on one. I found a DPMS on buds for $676 that has 7/7 5 star ratings. Are there any others around $6-800?

http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/p...ducts_id/61616.

Im still able to modify this with whatever I want right?

I dont believe that rifle is a flat top. Its an A-1 upper. If you wanna build a Tacta cool ZOMBIE KILLER,most peeps are going to want a flat top upper.

A-1 upper

Flat top A-3 upper

I would make sure the receiver on what ever AR plat form you choose. has a FORWARD ASSIST
#9 forward assist & this is a A-2

The one you linked is a standard A2 carbine. Yes, it can be modified to suit your tastes later. If you intend to add optics later though I would look at getting a rifle with the A3 flattop upper. Not that I dislike the A2, its fine for casual target shooting and plinking using the standard military peep sights. But sighting options are limited and mounting a scope is kinda a bitch on the A2. But the A3 provides far more sighting options if you want to experiment later with different styles of sights and scopes. You can also buy a carry handle for the A3 if thats your thing. Personally if I was just going to buy one I would go with the A3 upper. Go to DPMS website and check out the different combinations available in their AR15 lineup.

If you know how to shoot an Ar-15
you dont need a scope

The A-1 killed Charlie
The A-2 killed Iraqies
The A-3 will some day kill Zombies.

Great stuff. The wife shoots hers in the military with the A2 upper and that's her one stipulation. So Id be better off buying a flat top and adding a carry handle? That expensive? A lot of the ones I've seen have the flat tops but no front sight either. I want both sights. Is that possible or a costly add on?

IIRC the add on carry handles are pricey, somewhere around the $150 price range if memory serves me right. Front sight shouldn't be an issue. BTW, I stand corrected, LiveSteam is correct. That linked rifle is an A1 upper. I clicked the link and just took a quick glance w/o reading and I didn't notice the lack of a windage adjustment, which the A2 has but the A1 doesn't.

So, the Dpms is a negative than. My buddy has a colt AR he's looking to sell. It has either an A1 or A2 upper and a scope not installed. What questions should I ask him or anything obvious I can see for myself?
