2012 Kansas City Royals Repository Thread

2012 Slogan: Our Time

A better, more accurate 2012 Slogan: It is Finally Next Year
(from Great Expectations)

An alternative slogan if you don't like that one: Someone has to win this crappy division
(from alnorth)

With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:

Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

Quote:
If you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

The trade offer Rosenthal actually suggests is Billy Butler + Wil Myers AND/OR Jake Odorizzi.

He's not saying that the Royals SHOULD do that... but that type of deal is what the Mariners should look for in return for King Felix.

I don't think the Royals can do that, personally. Would really cripple the offense to move the best, established veteran hitter (and one who is controlled longer than King Felix).

Especially considering Hernandez already has a lot of mileage and is in the midst of his worst year.

Yeah, the hell with that. I'll roll the dice with what we have now and in the immediate future.

Wow. Even if he is pitching at his normal sub 2.00 ERA that isn't worth it.

Your July is shaping up to be not that rough. But yea, we had some teams that turned out weak all lined up for 2 weeks. Who cares? Royals are still winning more than they're losing for now.

I'll trade you Indiana Avenue for Pacific Avenue, Park Place and Boardwalk.

Myers and Odorizzi are the only untouchables on the farm IMO. Billy and whatever two prospect the Mariners want other than those two and I would deal for King Felix.

No way. He is wearing down as evidenced by his numbers this season. The Mariners are doing to him what we did to Meche. The team is lousy so when he starts they have to get as much out of him as possible leading to around 104 pitches every time he starts and well over 200 IP every season. He is a beast but they have been running him into the ground. I personally wouldn't take that risk especially with Billy's production and salary vs. Felix's less long term deal which would see us having to pay him $40 million over the next two years and then he becomes a FA.

Yeah, the Royals couldn't afford to give up that much premium production/potential premium production for a guy who is only signed for 2.5 seasons.

6 years of Meyers. 6 years of Odo. 3.5 years of Butler.

No way you give that up unless Hernandez is extended longer-term before the trade starts.

And they eat the entire salary from that extension.

So pretty much no. Good post btw.

Cardinals in a 1-1 game vs Detroit in the 9th. Hopefully it goes long so that the Cards have to use some more relievers for extended time. And then hopefully, after 15 innings, they beat the Tigers.

So you guys are saying you wouldn't do a package for Felix that is Billy Butler, Cheslor Cuthbert, and one of the pitching prospects?

Disagree re: moving Billy.

He's coming into his prime years (just turned 26 in April) and is finally starting to show the ability to convert 2Bs into HRs. He's only pace for 30 HR and 35 2Bs. The Royals have him through his age 31 year.

He's doing that while maintaining his AVG and OBP totals.

I wouldn't. Especially after just going over his stats. He has a career ERA of 3.26 which is much higher than I would have thought.
