"How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb"
...the new CD from U2 kicks serious ass. Being a huge fan of the group, I have to say I think it's easily their best work since "The Joshua Tree," although "Rattle & Hum" and "Achtung Baby" were quite good.
Muscially speaking, it's much more "Joshua Tree" than anything since. Of course for me that's good becasue I love that album and missed that signature U2 sound. I'm glad to say that The Edge's guitar riff is back...just enough for taste and to conjure up the memories of the good 'ol days. The base lines are strong and at times thumping and vibrating again and the song-writting is way better than those ugly days of "Lemon" pop. Bono is back to being interesting and thought-provoking, without getting too political (not that I ever minded). Have to say my favorite tracks are "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own," "Love & Peace Or Else," "All Because of You" (which is the next single), and "A Man & A Woman." They're all good though. "Vertigo" would probably make my list too if I weren't playing it 17 times a day. (hazards of radio). Anyhoo... it's good rock 'n roll and if you've ever been a U2 fan before, you've gotta check this one out. If not, then I'm not sure why you're reading this... |
