That probably came across as a little jerky... But I'd seriously like to understand the fascination with the WWE. I loved it when I was a kid, but stopped watching once I started playing football and couldn't go without watching a down of it, whoever was playing at any given moment.

But I can't understand how adults can get into WWE, knowing it's fake, and watching fake things happening, like men holding still while their opponent sets up for the big move.

Are the stories really that good? They must be.

You don't watch it cause it's fake, every show on TV is fake, it's entertainment just like anything else.

I'd rather watch wrestling than say CSI.

Kind of, but the vast majority of matches aren't "choreographed" aside from a few spots (that is to say, big moments). That's what's so impressive about great wrestlers; they get a few guidelines and then put together matches through improvisation (backed up by years and years and years and years of painful, painful training).

Long story short? You get it or you don't. We see someone who's really ****ing good at what he does because we grew to appreciate what it is that he does, while you see some guy pretending to hit another guy because you came into it expecting to see some guy pretending to hit another guy. Your perspective isn't wrong, but it's not really one that's conducive to enjoying it.

Also, when something bombs in wrestling, it's usually hilarious and awesome in a very special wrestlecrap kind of way. Except TNA, which is just completely soul-sucking and depressing.

The moral of the story is to never watch TNA. Actually, the moral of any story is to never watch TNA.

Do you go to a movie and say: "Oh this is fake, that didn't REALLY happen. That guy just stood there while the other guy shot him."

Think of it like an action scene in a movie. Only its in a somewhat controlled environment and they only get 1 take. Live.

To be honest, I haven't followed it very closely for over a decade now, but I see the appeal of it. It is fun to watch an episode every few months. I'm more of an MMA fan, and to make a long story short, modern MMA was born from the Japanese Professional Wrestling scene.

I doubt the storylines alone are the reason anyone here is watching. Its more like they are interested in the business side as in who gets pushed, new angles, etc...

Some of the storylines are great. Jericho/HBK was/is an amazingly well done angle, which went on for 8 or so months. But yeah, oftentimes backstage intrigue is just as fun to follow.

That's a very well constructed post.

Actually, one of my favorite moments of my life was when I was a kid about 15, and my family went to a WWF event in SLC. I saw Hogan fighting Zues and Roddy Piper. I saw Snooka. Hacksaw Jim Dugan (hilarious man), and a few of the other stars of the time. It was amazingly fun, but the thing that got me was to look over at my Dad who was having just as much fun with it as I was - maybe even more.

I guess I just grew out of it, and never found a reason to grow back into it. I suppose if my son got into it, so would I. Hell, I know every tool on Handy Manny's tool belt, and can sing about a dozen VeggieTales songs. I might end up rooting on Edge some day.

What was said above is very true, if you take the time to learn the backstage culture of wrestling it is very interesting and intriguing.

Don't count on it. Edge is one of the most glorious bastards ever as a heel, and if your kid gets into it he's going to loathe Edge.

God, I love Edge.

TJ,If you get a chance, watch the documentary "Beyond the Mat".

It provides an insight into the business of wrestling and it's appeal.

It's spectacle. You have to take it at face value.
