You can't kill anyone or a mob of baddies slaughters you. So far I can't sneak much further than the APC the troops unload out of at the start of the game.
You're not impressed because you suck?

Don't be a quitter man!!!

I hated the first MGS and wasn't going to try 4 at all. Changed my mind. The game is outstanding, though I could have lived without the 10 minute cutscenes.

I didn't like that it required you to be stealth at times. I want the option to just kill them if I have to. 4 allowed me to make that choice when the situation got bad.

I also hated the overhead camera angle system.

EDIT

Also, I went back and tried it again after finishing 4 and still didn't like it. Too spoiled by the free camera of 4 now. heh

I loved MGS. None of my friends were really into it, but for some reason it just blew me away. I will admit I like going FPS at times, but it was also kind of spoiling the MGS way.

I killed a lot of people in MGS 1. Who couldn't you kill?

I don't remember the specifics as I didn't get too far into it. I just really suck at stealth is all. Whenever killing a person caused a restart, it just pissed me off. There were a few areas that required you to complete it in stealth though.

It was enough to make me hate the experience.
