Help me build a new rig
Open to advice as it's been a decade-plus since I built my own desktop.

Here's my needs:
  • Primary use is photo editing in Lightroom, no gaming. So I'm thinking decent on board graphics will suffice?
  • I have a 4K Samsung 28-inch monitor, so nothing needed there.
  • Would like smallish, but that's not a necessity if it's more cost efficient to go with a standard mini tower or something.
  • No DVD ROM needed.
  • Decently hot, semi bare bones system.
  • Would like SSD for system, and at least 1TB for storage.

And go.

Yep, and 850 gigs are filled with sample libraries. I'll probably need another one before the end of the year. One of my orchestral libraries is more than 200 gigs alone.

It's incredibly awesome streaming from an SSD. The performance is significantly better although all of my audio tracks are recorded to the WD 7200 rpm Black's. There's no advantage to recording audio to SSD's.

So I've built this one on Amazon with lesser memory (slower and DDR3) and a lesser motherboard, and the cost is $1545. Why would I not spend $140 more for the better equipment and someone else building it?

That Lenovo is a pretty good deal. I'd probably toss the SSHD for a 512GB SSD, though.

It's a hybrid that works with the normal HD.

Is there a reason I should go with with Windows 8.1 Pro vs. standard 8.1? I've looked on the comparison on the MS site and don't really see one, but thought the pro's here might know of a compelling reason.

The only reason to purchase Pro is if you'll need 512 gigabytes of RAM. 8.1 OEM supports up to 128 gigs, if that's enough, go with 8.1 OEM.
