I sure hope that's sarcasm Donger. You're posts on the planet indicate intelligence, so I'm assuming so.

I guess I'm pretty lucky over here in BFE Kansas. I just paid $2.75 for the 89 octane midgrade, it won't last long though.

Yes, it is. I ran regular octane through my car once and while it ran, performance was noticeable reduced. Enough so that I don't mind the extra $.40/gallon.

I've always been told that running the high octane in a "regular" vehicle is a waste of money, but if you notice the difference in performance I guess it is worth it... how about the gas mileage, it better too?

My car requires 93 octane. It will run on less, but performance is reduced. Therefore, I purchase premium.

Yes, putting high-octane/premium gasoline into a vehicle that does not require it is a waste of money. There is no increase in performance or mileage. If your engine is pinging or knocking, however, high octane fuel might solve that.

If you are uncertain, look at your owner's manual or inside your gas cover.

I have a 97 Nissan 2wd light truck, don't think anything will be different per octane use but I'll check my owners manual anyway.

I'd wager it only requires regular grade. High-compression engines, turbo or super-charged motors are the ones that require premium.

But, by all means, make sure (everyone). If you are filling up with premium and you don't need to, you are wasting serious cash.

I made that mistake when I was younger. Luckily gas was only around $1.20 a gallon at the time. I feel like my grandparents who used to amaze with .05 loaves of bread and .25 cheeseburgers and fries. It's not like gas is ever going under $2 a gallon again.

National average? No, probably not. It bottomed out right around $2.10 earlier this year. But, some places saw sub $2.00 spot prices this year.

Oh, and on the price of gasoline relative to things like hamburgers, gasoline has actually not increased faster than such items over time. Not even close, in fact.

I hadn't seen this before today:

http://www.gasbuddy.com/GB_Map_Gas_Prices.aspx

Pretty cool. Shows all the current retail prices on a map and you can click on each one and get the store location.

Thought I'd share.

Donger -

I can understand your stance on the price of gas if we were in a country like England or Australia...IMO the problem is we live in a "wide open" country that up until last year has seen a product like gasoline inflate astronomically. Blame it on the war or refining...It matters not to me. I can tell you that where I live and work this "inflation" will send us into another depression.

I just purchased a new truck that I'm going to seriously consider selling or even give back to the bank...I bought it based on several factors but the price of gasoline rising over a dollar gallon was not one of them. If gas goes to 4 a gallon and I can't sell it the bank gets to deal with it IMO...

Owell...Freedom isn't free...right?

A banker once told me if he gets a repo he is legal to sell it for what he can get and the owner still owes the difference between the sale price and the note value. And the banker doesn't have to try hard to get top dollar.
