Alex Smith Traded to Chiefs

Well, it looks like the deal is done.

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

I dont care about Smith. He is a upgrade.

My problem is if Dorsey lets Bowe and Albert walk the cornerstones of this franchise than I'm done. Dorsey has never been a gm and I can see why.

Dorsey says he builds through the draft. Bullshit he just traded 2 second round picks for a backup qb. Wasting picks left and right.

Reid is the one who loves Alex Smith. It was his move.

Look on the bright side.

If the league is rigged, we will assuredly meet the 49ers in the Super Bowl and become the benefactors of the Alex Smith Redemption storyline.

That wouldn't work, because unless the league runs out of story lines we will never be the benefactors..

Good franchise, try great franchise. I throughly enjoy being a 49er fan, even during the bad times when the sky is falling. I'm kinda wondering how a person such as yourself gets blessed with a place that offers such great BBQ, but I digress.

I wasn't exactly blessed with the franchise, I was given a choice early in my life. The year was 1988 and I was six years old. My grandfather was a 49er fan, my father a raider fan. I would usually listen to my dad at that age, but my grandpa had a good point, so I went with the 49ers and didn't look back.

Thanks Snoop. An interesting story is that in 1994 the same grandfather was rooting for Joe Montana and the Chiefs to beat the 49ers, I was rooting for the 49ers. The KC pass rush is what ended up winning the day. Good luck over here, I have warmed up to alex as a football player over the years, but the fact he is such a great person makes it easier.

49er fan here (don't shoot me)

Just wanted to say that although many are speculating that the Chiefs overpaid for Alex Smith (you'll have to nevermind the trolls. No life with an obsession for a sport with a 7 month off-season will get you some pests), you should know KC is getting a high quality QB. He is more than capable of winning games in the NFL. A 2nd and a conditional pick in next years draft just acquired a top 15 QB in this league. The main contingency on KC being competitive this year I think is how Reid is and where he's at mentally (ie, is he burnt out or not).

I am sad to see Smith go, its the end of the most controversial era in recent memory for us 49er fans. For better or worse, Alex Smith has been SF's QB for the last 8 years. I knew once Kaep took over that this would happen soon though. If you guys keep Bowe and get more production from your defensive front, I think the Chiefs are set to make things interesting in the AFCW. I said last year that the Chiefs looked like they were suffering from Mike Simpletary-syndrom: good players in place suffering the horrific effects of bad coaching. Hopefully getting a QB you can trust is a good step.

Good luck! And please, smack around the Broncos for us 49er folk.

Reid is burned out and an also-ran.

Smith might get the double or even triple the wins from last year.. But that means a max of six.

Also I question your evaluation skills. Kansas City was 2-3 years from competing for the division with the assumption they filled holes through hits on draft picks higher than the 4th round. As of now they look poised to hit on maybe 1 pick that will pay immediate dividends.

So yeah the anti-bronco sentiment is welcome here, but you're better off wishing it towards R8ers or Buck because they'll win the West before KC will.
