*.* 2014 General Fitness Thread *.*

Welcome to 2014! Now get your ass in top physical condition!

No one else started it so here it is!

**From the 2013 Thread**

If you want to get back into lifting, or need a new lifting routine, START HERE:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wi...inner_Programs

If you have questions about the SS programs, look here:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ

Keep in mind that you're a novice lifter for a longer period of time than you think you are. Novice lifting can last anywhere from a few months to a year or two, depending on how hard you hit the weights and where you started.

Once you've reached the point where you don't make regular progress on the SS program, you are ready to move on to the intermediate stage, which can last you for a good number of years. Find it HERE:

http://madcow.hostzi.com/5x5_Program/Linear_5x5.htm

If you're a very advanced lifter (many, many years of CONSISTENT weight training), then there are lot of programs out there, and which one you pick is simply a matter of preference. If you're really that advanced, you should know what works for you and what doesn't by this point.

You're absolutely right, cardio is hugely important and I've always incorporated a lot of it into my plans, but go back maybe twenty pages in this thread and you'll find atleast 2-3 people telling me what a waste of time cardio is... "dude just lift, the calorie burning lasts much longer etc"

I never said shit about cardio being good so count me as one of them. It isn't a waste of time but it isn't the best use of your time. Their right, your time is better spent lifting weights to burn more calories and lose bodyfat quicker.

Well, I not only want to be good looking outside but inside as well, building a bunch of muscle that my cardiovascular system cant properly equip with oxygen during strenuous activity over extended periods isnt the balance I'm looking for.

Big muscles take a lot of oxygen to exert themselves for any amount of time.

Dude, suck my fart... I don't need some neophyte fitness junkie like yourself or anyone else for that matter, to tell me anything.

Cardio counts, if you cant feed the muscle enough oxygen during extended activity it wears out quicker.

If every single poster here thinks I'm FOS about it... fine, its not a big deal.

I know whats always worked for me and I also know that cardio is a huge part of MMA fighters regimens, they don't want to get bigger than their cardio can handle.

If you don't want big muscles, then do high weight with a low rep count (less than 6) or a little less weight with high rep count (more than 12). Also remember that you cannot target weight loss. And eat plenty of protein (too).

I know I'm a chick, so I won't get big like a dude, but this has helped me shed 80 lbs since November.

I'll never understand why people can even reason with that theory. Think of the guys benching 400+, pulling 600+ and squatting in the 500's.....they all lift heavy and are ****ing huge. High weight/low reps mixed with eating like a horse gets you huge.

I'm not huge but I've consistently done my main lifting in reps less than 6 reps. Getting stronger and lifting heavier weight DOES get your bigger.

Want to not gain much muscle mass? Eat very little and lift for high reps.

Not much.

Protein and Creatine Monohydrate.

There are some legal over-the-counter steroids you can buy that theoretically would be your best but not the safest. You've got to do your homework with oral steroids to prevent side effects as they can be harsh on your body.

I don't think scott free has lifted a heavy weight in his life. It's not like hefting a 50-pound dumbbell is going to get you huge. Yet he thinks even that is a bad thing. I work out with a pair of 70s and I'm barely 180 lbs at 6 feet tall.

Bottom line, if luv is embarrassing you in the weightlifting department, you are not a man.

Give me your righteous anger, scott free. I'm going to shame you until you submit to my will.

I lift more heavy weights at work than you do in the gym, I was in the gym lifting when you were still using your own poop as fingerpaint... and I sure don't need you to tell me whats worked for me over and over through the years.

Just because it's "worked" for you doesn't mean it's the best way to get results. Nothing you post has ever been proven to be the most efficient way to train, get muscle and stay lean. Plain and simple, what you post is pretty bad advice.
