Geno Smith fans roll call

NEW THREAD HEADER (11/17/12):

The list is gone. We will all be Geno Smith fans when he gets drafted by the Chiefs. For historical documentation's sake, I'll keep the list in a separate post on this thread: http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showp...postcount=3314

WHY GENO SMITH?
If you're wondering if Geno Smith is right for you, check out this brilliant post by Saccopoo:

http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showp...postcount=5388

Next, we have a few GIFs you may be interested in from the Oklahoma game. Insane potential. These are the elite throws that very few QBs can make. What more can I say? Geno Smith can be a franchise QB in the NFL, and the Chiefs need to take a shot on him.

GIF #1:
Spoiler!

GIF #2:
Spoiler!

GIF #3 (My favorite):
Spoiler!

HOW DO WE GET HIM HERE?

Glad you asked. I posted this checklist earlier. It probably belongs in the thread header, and will be updated as the Chiefs close out their season and start a new chapter in their franchise story.

Preparing for Geno Smith's Arrival In KC Checklist

1. [X] Lose games and acquire the #1 overall pick
2. [X] Get Pioli and the Patriot Way cronies the **** out
3. [X] Hire new GM/coach

OPTIONAL (but highly recommended):
4. [ ] Re-sign/tag Bowe, who really wants to play in KC with Geno
5. [ ] Re-sign/tag Albert

When RG3 played OU, his defense gave up 5 TD's and his running game could only muster a mere 59 yards and 2.95 YPC average.

RG3 took that game over and showed why he was special. He put the team on his back and owned OU.

That's when people knew he was for real.

McShay and Kiper always 'pace' themselves when it comes to mocks and rankings.

I think they deliberately rank players wrong early on to give themselves something to talk and disagree about for t.v. (although i have no documents proving it Dakc)

Eventually their rankings end up very similar, right before the draft, for most player

99% of them do because word gets leaked out from the teams what the draft boards look like and how teams will draft. When a team then takes a player near where they had them "ranked" they look good.

RGIII led a team that nearly lost to the worst team in division 1 college football last year.

If WVU's defense gets one stop this year, Geno gets hyped for throwing 3 td's in the 4th quarter to beat a top 10 defense.

No argument. He's got better athleticism than any other QB in the entire NFL. However, I don't see where that is really a deciding factor in terms of being a better QB. As I pointed out, Brady might be the most unathletic QB in the NFL and he seems to be a pretty good player. Irrelevent in terms of that making him a better prospect.

Quote:
2. Has the "it" factor and will literally put teams on his back and will them to victory regardless of the circumstance.
Quote:
ESPN analyst and former NFL quarterback Trent Dilfer coached Smith along with quarterback guru George Whitfield last summer at the Elite 11 quarterback camp in Southern California. Dilfer came away impressed with Smith as a first-round talent.

“I‘m a big fan of Geno,” Dilfer said. “I really appreciate his skill. I appreciate his mind, his leadership.

“The (quarterbacks) that really see it clearly, they know that guy‘s 14 yards deep, not 8 yards deep. They know that body‘s leaning inside instead of outside. They see the width of the safety, the drop of the linebacker. They trust the blitz is coming, and they make the right decision in protection. I was thoroughly impressed with how Geno saw the pictures.”
Quote:
1) Leadership: I (Bucky Brooks) have no concerns about Smith's leadership skills after what I saw Saturday. From the time the Mountaineers entered the field for pregame warmups until the conclusion of the game, Smith showed outstanding leadership qualities. He encouraged his teammates at every turn, refusing to hang his head when he turned the ball over on a pair of strip-sacks. Smith was obviously annoyed by the mistakes, but he didn't appear to wallow in self-pity, responding instead with improved play on the subsequent series.
Quote:
But Smith not only has exceptional talent, but scholarly intelligence and maturity. In addition, he was permitted by his prep coach, former Mountaineer standout Damon Cogdell, to call his own plays at Miramar High in Miami as a junior and senior.

So Smith obviously is further along than your average sophomore. And pleased WVU coaches and admiring teammates will tell you he’s rapidly growing into a strong leader.
Quote:
3. His football IQ is incredible. We don't know Geno's for sure just yet. He's "rumored" to have a good football IQ, but he's struggled in some areas such as blitz pickups and defensive formations. RG3 we know for sure knows everything. Geno is still unknown like the rest of his class until February.

Quote:
A visionary, he was called. After taking an intelligence test, he was labeled gifted. If his mother wished, Smith could have skipped a grade. She decided against it, preferring he mature with his peers — a notion that did not go as planned, considering Smith often grew bored after finishing his schoolwork faster than most of his classmates.

“His visions of things have always been beyond his years,” Tracey Sellers said of her son...
Quote:
4. Has elite people skills. Can't say how important that is for a QB. Huge for leadership.
Quote:
“It’s not an act. It’s actually who they are. It’s not about football. I think that stability has kept them grounded. Knowing they have to be accountable.” – Smith’s mother Tracey Sellers
Quote:
“My pastor is a really great guy. He always calls me, wishes us well, says a prayer for us. I think it really helps us out, makes us comfortable.” – Smith
Quote:
“When I think of those two (Smith and Stedman Bailey), it makes me a little teary-eyed sometimes. They play two different positions but they have a lot of things in common. They’re like brothers more so than friends. They went to the same school, fellowship at the same church. That’s what you call a friendship.” – Sellers

Quote:
5. Has great accuracy and arm strength just like Geno (see Thanksgiving game vs Cowboys for best recent example).
Indeed.

Of all my years here, I never thought I would see Sac fight the good fight this hard.

When you see someone like Sac, who spends a monster amount of time on this stuff, goes this much all in on a QB, something i don't think he's ever done, you take note.

Well done sir, well done.

Sac was the first guy here, as far as I remember, who was dedicated to Geno.

And I've said it around here recently, I think that it takes an offensive tackle operating out of a college spread a lot more time to adjust to the next level than it does a quarterback.

Look at Okung. His measurables and potential were damn near through the roof, and it's only now that he's finally playing up to that potential. (Playing very well right now in fact.)

If the Chiefs take Joeckel, that's a three/four year project IMO.

People talk about taking QB's from a "pro style set" but there's a reason that offensive linemen out of USC, Boston College and Wisconsin seem to have a much faster successful transition to the pros than other guys who are similarly talented.
