2012 Kansas City Royals Repository Thread

2012 Slogan: Our Time

A better, more accurate 2012 Slogan: It is Finally Next Year
(from Great Expectations)

An alternative slogan if you don't like that one: Someone has to win this crappy division
(from alnorth)

With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:

Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

Quote:
If you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

We all came into this year with higher expectations. We've all been sorely disappointed in the result. When DM came in he said right up front we were going to build through the draft and foreign development. We HAVE and ARE doing that. No... it doesn't make the product on the field right now any more bearable. Anyone who follows baseball (as the people who frequent this thread do) understand that building through the draft in baseball mean time will be taken. It's been 5 years now. The results aren't showing in the teams record this year but I don't think anyone believes we don't have the young talent at the positions to get there overall.

The subject of starting pitching has been a different subject. It's failed miserably and that falls on DM/Glass every bit as much as having talent at the postions is a credit to them. They absolutely must do better and no one disputes that.

While we're killing Glass and DM... which is in large part deserved... lets try to also remember that the first wave is on the MLB roster now and they're young and imperfect but there is a lot to feel good about there for the future. Moose, Perez, Hosmer (hopefully it's just a sophomore slump), Gordon, Cain, Escobar. Future waves have Myers, Starling, Cuthbert. The spending for foreign development is there.

These things take time... and some times a lot of time in baseball... but DM/Glass have done what they said they would in building this way.

Again, we have to get better starting pitching. We have to spend seriously in free agency. We need some good choices to be made with complimentary parts.

It's dismal because we're in last place in an "Our Time" year. That slogan was a huge mistake. The whole team doesn't suck though and things ARE being done to improve it... just not enough yet.

Flame away.
FFS, no one is losing his mind because of Mijares. In isolation, I couldn't care less. But it's one more symptom of the disease, and it happens to be the third dumb ****ing move in the last couple of days (first base coach, Yuni, Mijares).

Do I care about a base coach? No. Just embarrassed by the scapegoating. Do I care about Yuni? **** no. Glad he's gone, but I wish the reason for his dismissal was his OBP. Lack of defensive ability or range. Not "winning culture" bullshit. Doesn't exist. This is the shit that Pioli came in trying to sell, and I can't stand it from him either.

Moore hasn't held to his word. He said 8 years to a WS. Now we're 8 years to "competing."

Pitchers are the currency of baseball, right? But we don't like to spend, apparently.

DM needs to be fired for sticking with Frenchy ****ass and not bringing up Myers. It's equivalent to Haley starting Palko over Orton. There's just no justification to sitting someone (or in Myers case not being called up to the majors) when they're completely 10000% better than the option that's on the field. I mean that should result in an immediate firing with any regular FO that gives a shit about their franchise.

Not taking sides but everyone slumps at pretty much every level at some point. Myers has shown more than enough to warrent a spot in KC to at least shorten his learning curve for the future while Frenchy isn't suppossed to be part of the long term plan anyway.

Losing your mind was probably a bad choice of words. Just something we say in debates sometimes.

I'm unaware of the 8 years to a championship and now 8 years to competeing thing. They're saying we're 8 years to competeing... or another 3 in the overall picture?

He gets on base. He hits for power.

There was a report in the Star not long ago when he stated that he was pressing close to the deadline b/c he was too focused on getting called up.

If you think that he hasn't deserved a promotion, that we're better served with the worst everyday player in the AL in RF, I don't know what to tell you.

Not bringing up Myers defies everything that statistical analysis says about Frenchy. But, when it comes to DM, that's what 1979 do.

Why would we sacrifice a year of control to bring Myers up now in a year that is a foregone conclusion?

Same with Starling. If my dumb ass is trumpeting him long before the draft, I'm not incredibly impressed with Moore's ability to "evaluate" that talent.

Signing Yuni--for a second time no less--is embarrassing. It shows the organization embraces '75-levels of analysis. Mijares, according to the Star article, was also let go b/c of $.

If the Giants were willing to put in a waiver claim, I have a hard time believing that they wouldn't have traded something, anything, before the deadline. This much seems pretty obvious.

But let's fire a first base coach. Can't have anyone questioning The Process, and let's make sure that Frenchy is in the lineup--since DM's eye for hitting talent must extend here, too--and let's keep losing.

Can't wait to hear how '16 is really the year.

The Royals will never win shit under DM's tenure. He's a terrible, terrible GM. While I appreciate the thoughtfulness in your post, I disagree with it almost entirely.
Ill go with this

I dont see how anyone can still have faith in this franchise and its direction?

I said this something similiar the other day......Its an organization lead by a dipshit scout masquerading as a GM, and a dipshit owner who doesnt appear to hold anyone accountable for results. Nothing will change until there is a change in leadership.

I still want to believe, but i just cant anymore. They are not worthy of any of the support any of us give them. Show me Something!!!!!

To shorten his learning curve playing MLB... to give him a head start on next year. If this year is a gonner and Myers is the future in RF then get him started just like they did Moose, Hosmer and Perez last year. It's not like he hasn't earned it. Besides aren't we past the point of losing a year of control? If not then I have that wrong. I'd still bring him up. They did it last year with Hosmer.

Flat out releasing Mijares for nothing is stupid. Dude is under control through 2014 i believe. I heard a month or two ago from a guy that has some connection with royals that mijares was a clubhouse douche and he predicted he'd get cut or traded before the season.

Still should've gotten something. The culture thing is TOTAL bullshit. If Yuni wanted playing time then you cut him way before now or hell DON'T sign him Dayton! It's not like you dont know who you're dealing with? Myers is up on any other club right now but Dayton would rather keep dogshit in right field. His ass will be fired soon enough, i'm sure the Glasses are getting irritated with him ****ing around with the $$$ they gave him.

Alot of scapegoating bullshit too, starting with a 1b coach firing, what a ****ing joke.

This stupid ****ing franchise, fire them all, no seriously drop gas on all of em!!!

Because, according to Yost, it's imperative to "create a winning culture," and playing the best options at each position would help with that.

Why bring him up? Because he's ready. Cheap, bullshit, bush-league operations are more concerned with control than building toward a championship.

I said "championship" in a Royals thread. .

Well, this really isn't a bad thing because we needed a utility man. Never mind that Escobar has been tough and consistent, never mind that Getz or even Moose could fill in if forced.

Don't get creative. Don't show foresight. Be ****ing stupid. Be a true, blue Royal.
