Crow's Drafturbation 12/16

Same ol' offseason blah blah for right now....

Movin on...

1. OLB Alvin Dupree - Kentucky
I'm looking straight at you Mr. Dee Ford. Yes, your rookie season is an epic fail for a 1st round pass rusher. You run scared from the rush. You have one pass rush move, if you call running as fast as you can a move. John Dorsey made a huge mistake. So, until you can prove me wrong, Kansas City actually needs to replace Tamba Hali with a guy that can rush the passer with multiple moves and also stop the run.

2. CB Quinten Rollins - Miami (Ohio)
Sean Smith has one year left on his contract. Phillip Gaines looks like a plus player at this point. Time to lock down the other side with a physical defensive back that can make plays on the football (this means a defensive back that can CATCH!).

3. WR Tyler Lockett - Kansas State
Ah yes, the Chiefs should finally grab someone to play that position known as receiver. You know, that position on offense that Alex Smith doesn't throw to? The one that accounts for an offensive touchdown every other game in odd numbered years. Lockett's dad played in KC, and Kevin fits what KC does on offense. Yay.

3. OG Jarvis Harrison - Texas A&M
And I wouldn't forget to fix the offensive line, you know that turnstile that allows pass rushers to hit Alex Smith at a torrid pace? Well, the Chiefs might want to stop that from happening from time-to-time, and they might want to help out their ground game a little too. Meet Mr. Harrison, a fat ass road grader type that will at least make defenders run (a long way) around him.

4. OT Sean Hickey - Syracuse
Yep, I have to keep trying to fix the O-line here, and Hickey shows potential to be a swing tackle type and even a guard. Hey, gotta try to cover as many bases as possible when every player but your free agent center suck.

5. ILB Jake Ryan - Michigan
Oh no, I didn't forget about that gaping hole that is created every time a team wants to run the football against the Chiefs. I bet if opponents really tried hard enough they could muster 200 yards a game. Well, time to get some reinforcements. I'm downgrading Ryan's draft status in this here scenario, much because the draft prognosticators feel this way. Hey, if I can get a bargain, I'll take it. Ryan can crash down and stop that run game.

5. ILB Mike Hull - Penn State
One ILB enough? No way. Did I mention the GAPING hole that is created in the middle of the defense when teams run against KC? Yeah, we'll take two inside backers in hopes that the hole can be closed. Hull is an everywhere on the field type of player.

5. TE Nick Boyle - Delaware
Well, I'm throwing in a tight end here because, well, KC should cut Fasano's fat contract and Harris is a free agent, still-a-project, type. Boyle is a nice player, similar skillset to what Fasano brings, good blocker, solid receiver, typical tight end. Alex Smith should be happy because he can actually see these big, lumbering fellas 5 to 7 yards down field.

6. RB Malcolm Agnew - Southern Illinois
A quick, elusive runner that can take it inside or outside. Willing and able pass protector as well. Even though Jamaal Charles could last forever getting 12 touches per game, he might need a successor. Agnew would give the Chiefs a similar look when they sub Charles out.

7. WR Deon Long - Maryland
Ah yes, another receiver. Dont' ask me why I'm adding another one here, since it seems one is sufficient. However, there might be those times where Smith looks down field and he might just be able to find two open receivers. Long has nice size and good speed. He doesn't go down on first contact and tries to make plays. He can run a 7 yard slant with the best of them too, which should help Alex.

7. FS/SS Dechane Durant - Northern Illinois
Well, I have to throw in a wild card here, so I'm going with a deep secondary player to help fill that void created by the Eric Berry cancer situation. Durant is a tall, rangy DB that can play either safety spot. He was all over playing with Jimmie Ward as a junior.

isnt the franchise tag the same price for any offensive lineman? i believe tagging carpenter would cost 12+m next year.

Why do people hate Dee Ford? He's shown some solid flashes this year and will be back stronger next season.

There's no way Dorsey drafts another first round pass rusher even if Dupree falls (he won't). It would make him look like an unconfident GM who isn't sure about his first round pick.

I'm quite certain you are correct on all offensive lineman positions falling under one tag, which is silly given their obvious values and the fact that the NFL splits defensive lineman (ends vs tackles). It should be split between tackles and interior in my opinion. This year's number was around 11.7 million so I'd say you'd be correct in assuming next years will be similar (my calculations estimate about 12.3 million for franchise tag and 11.5 million for transition tag for O-Line)

That's $40.8 million to spend.

The Seahawks aren't losing Carpenter or Kearse. It's a pipe dream to think they will.
Russ Wilson also needs a new pair of shoes.

That's not going to take up 40.8 million, but still.

If Lockett is there at 3 you take him. I figured he'd be higher but if he's there be better be the pick.

Not sure why people aren't happy about a first round pick who hopefully may make a play in the last week of the season.
