2012 Kansas City Royals Repository Thread

2012 Slogan: Our Time

A better, more accurate 2012 Slogan: It is Finally Next Year
(from Great Expectations)

An alternative slogan if you don't like that one: Someone has to win this crappy division
(from alnorth)

With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:

Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

Quote:
If you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

Odorizzi fell off a cliff in the sixth inning today. He appeared pretty tired and he started the inning at ~75 pitches. Again, he gave up some deep flyouts today, and you have to think some of those will turn into big flies in the big leagues. I still don't think he's ready.

Does he leave stuff up in the zone as the game proceeds?

I really couldn't tell. The angle was straight behind the backstop. But he was losing command of the strikezone and threw much more hittable stuff which would lead me to believe so. I think they ran him up to 91 pitches tonight but in those last 17 pitches he gave up a deep fly, struck a guy out and gave up two line drives. He was also throwing a lot more balls. He didn't get a first pitch strike on anyone except the guy he struck out. And really, he started to deteriorate in the fifth but managed to keep it under control.

Thanks for the information. Sounds like the pitching problems are system wide

Rangers, Giants Interested In Broxton
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [July 29, 2012 at 6:36pm CST]

6:36pm: The Rangers are also in on Broxton, writes Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. Texas is turning its focus to bullpen help after becoming frustrated with the starting pitching market, according to Heyman.

2:36pm: The Giants have serious interest in Jonathan Broxton, Jim Bowden of ESPN.com and MLB Network Radio reports (on Twitter). Interest on Broxton is picking up and there's a 60-70% chance he'll be traded by the deadline, ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick reports (on Twitter).

The Giants don't view Broxton as the solution for their bullpen, Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com reported this week. There's not much bullpen help available, now that Huston Street is off the market, Knobler reported today (on Twitter). The Blue Jays and Red Sox aren't selling and teams aren't impressed by the available relievers.

I realize Broxton is flawed, but it's going to be difficult to convince me he isn't an upgrade to most bullpens in the league.

I wouldn't trade Broxton to the Giants just because they raped us on the Melky deal. Screw them.

Trade Broxton. Great. Don't trade Broxton, whatever. He's so far down on the list of problems that it's not funny.

Should add: my apathy on this issue is because Broxton will likely net little more than a lottery ticket. I'm all for playing, but that ticket isn't making me forget about the mountain of debt the Royals have accrued.

So many problems...agreed. No pitching, no recognition on letting shitty players play ahead of potential players.

Gio and Myers should be up playing everyday at this point. See what they are made of.

Starting staff is lost easily...not sure how that gets fixed.

I'm not confident Dayton will get the ship right New manager and GM are needed imo. Yes Dayton has done well except with SP in the minors, and great. I think Baird could've done something similiar atleast if Glass allowed it.

Such a waste of a year.

Hell let Seitzer take over for the rest of the year and see if he can get them fired up. He's got a firey personality. The grandfather figure doesn't seem to work with them. Rest of the year will be a test for young guys to see if they have any ****ing pride at least

Our negotiating should consist of

Giants GM: we will off you players X and Z for Brox

GM DM: You've got a deal if you'll also take Frenchy.

Then put the saved money in the pot for a couple of pitchers.
