That's never a good thing.

Again, this kind of shit would have been okay last year. But not this year. The franchise wanted to send a message in 2013. Going in with a guy like Commings with nobody else to compete with him (except maybe a rookie) is not how this is supposed to work.

It still could be an issue for Kelce as well. Dude looked like he was fighting every pass thrown his way in every preseason game he played in. It was as if he forgot how to catch, position his body, block, etc...I'm betting he was thinking too much, but holy shit he looked bad. No way I'd count on anything from him, not to mention recovering from microfracture surgery is a tricky process.

Maybe the broken collarbone had a little bit of a silver lining then because he got almost his entire rookie season to watch tape and digest the playbook.

That's what we have to hope for.

I just really really disagree with Direckshun. That's not how good teams are built. Good teams replace aging veterans, injuries, or guys who want too much money with players that they know a ton about. The replacements are either 2nd-year rookies who were high draft picks or they were mid-late round picks or undrafted guys who flashed a lot of good stuff and earned playing time during the prior season.

Sanders Commings is kind of an "Eh, his college tape looks good. Why the **** not? Let's do it!" This happens to teams who lack depth at the position and/or offseason resources to solidify the starting lineup. In other words... not good teams.

We're down to what in terms of free agents? Clemons? As guys we could start that would be a legit upgrade to Kendrick Lewis. Not much is left out there.

Then we got the draft left. I know the Niners started Eric Reid last year, but not because they went in depending on him for production. They started him because they deemed he was worthy. And at least from how things are looking right now, about the only rookie I would feel halfway comfortable with starting at FS is Clinton-Dix.

Any other player is going to require a bit of luck. Not a lot, but some. We're simply just not very well prepared to fill this roster hole right now.

Calvin Pryor is definitely startable as well.

Sure, but I don't want us to take him with our 1st pick.

Unless we trade back, that is.

ya know what the was gameplan last year for any QB worth a shit

-eh just pick on Kendrick Lewis or the new guy Marcus Cooper, Lewis is slow and Cooper is the new guy with growing pains. Sprinkle in a little Demps too he takes awful angles.

That was it, teams would just throw at them

This year it will be, eh just pick on the new guy Comings or whoever Joe Mays is covering.

It might not be an issue, because I think there's a good chance they're both gone by our pick.

And while I agree with the bolded part, I think it's important to note that it wouldn't take much to upgrade Lewis. I agree that it's going to take a modicum of luck to get someone great on the cheap but I think letting the kids play is how we're going to have a chance in the future. I'd rather take a shot with someone we drafted and has some familiarity with the system than bring in someone else's player for a huge chunk of cash that we don't have.

Successful teams are successful because they hit on some late draft picks but in our case we either don't hit or they don't get a chance to play because apparently it is a very difficult process to rewrite a depth chart.

Sorry but this is just dumb. Why does it matter if they win? This is "fan" thinking at its finest.
