Dumb idea of the day: Let Alex Smith play out his contract
http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2014/4...t-his-contract
A year ago I suggested that Alex Smith should be extended because the price would never be lower. Obviously 99% of the forum was against me, but the deal I suggested would be a bargain today. Now paid writers are literally suggesting to let Alex play it out when there is no chance that the Chiefs could match free agent offers for him. Their defense is that he could get hurt. Wow, and if he gets hurt, who plays QB? Chiefs are screwed either way Best case scenario if we don't extend Alex soon is the franchise tag and that means massively overpaying for another key position |

Don't hate.
Would have been a first round prospect this year.

Really? Yeah sure not a draftable talent to first round talent. Keep propping your beliefs up there. What ever it takes for you.

I'm an Alex Smith fan but if he gets Jay Cutler money that would not be good for the team. Well, i'm a frugal asian who likes to get the better of the deal. So 12/13 mil/yr avg for 4 yrs would be nice.
My guess: they don't come to terms and lets Alex play out his contract. No franchise tag so Alex tests market and gets 16 mil with Browns, assuming he has a similar productive season. Tyler Bray becomes the next qb in line and injures shoulder at pre-season ala Mark Sanchez. Matt Cassel is then picked up off the streets. Chiefsplanet implodes. |

Tag him, get yourself in position to draft a QB next year, then rescind the tag. Protects you against all possibilities.

What ****ing tool wants to pay 20 mil a year to a not-t0p-5 QB?
Almost 1/5th of the entire team cap to one guy? And that guy is Alex Smith? Has this BB lost its ****ing mind?...

Aren't you the guy calling for a significant cap increase coming soon? And talking about cutting Hali and Flowers after this season? If we really want to, we could sign both of those guys. |

We'll lose at least one of either Berry or Houston. Dorsey has shown no ability to keep talent.
