Unique Military Weapons

Cant recall ever seeing a thread on this topic so i thought it was time we had one... this thread is dedicated to military weaponry of any kind, from any era or nation.

There is a seemingly endless array of novel, fascinating, revolutionary or even ill-fated hardware out there so subject material shouldnt be a problem.

First entry coming up shortly...

This is what they've been practicing with at Ft. Riley. We're used to manuevers but this is rattling things pretty good.

You know, while we're on this subject of stealth technology and computer guided this and that - I just finished a series of three books that I HIGHLY recommend to anyone who may (or may not) be slightly on the fence about "modern warfare".

The series is in three books, Fairly easy reads. (1) Once Second after (2) One year after and (3) The Final day Written by William R. Forstchen

Not plugging anything here - but as an old Soldier, it REALLY opened my eyes about EMP..and the funny thing about it? I read all three on an iPad......But seriously, folks...if you want to get an understanding of EMP and it's ramifications, check these books out. Great read .

I've read that most of our military infrastructure is hardened against an EMP attack, so I believe we could still defend the nation... but yeah, based on what I've read, it would fry our electrical grid and civilian computer networks

It would be a catastrophe for the population at large

Actually, it's rather shocking that most of it isn't. I believed as you, that our military would "soldier on" but it really isn't the case. The more "emphasis" we place on technology driven weapons - the more we leave ourselves open to such an event. For example - Our helicopter fleet wouldn't last 2 minutes, our fighters 2 minutes, and now our artillery and armor...sure, our Nuclear force would survive (200 feet below ground).

Ait Force One - as another example. There are a few hardened systems on the aircraft - but no ability to "fly by wire"....which strikes me as really weird. One would think they at they could switch systems on a dime - but not true.

But yeah, Our Bpoomers are out to sea - under the sea and wouldn't bee too affected by an EMP (or three - as in the books) but unless (and there are) systems buried underground there would be little commo between the top and the bottom of the Armed Services.

I'm telling you - I was absolutely sure that the United States, with all its technological "might" (if you will) was fairly immune to EMP - after those books (although works of fiction) made me re-think even my own defensive capabilities....And I guess the old adage is true (from Rod Serling fame) "Turn out their lights and simply watch them turn on each other"

I will gladly to defer to you here, it isnt a subject I've spent a whole lotta time looking into

If its as bad as it sounds, we REALLY need to get our anti-missile systems locked in... I've been seeing how many of our recent tests of those systems have been complete failures

That's why I suggested these books - Although it is fiction - this guy knows his stuff. I finished the last book last night and I thought T.S. Elliot was, indeed correct. But hell, there's always hope!

Unfortunately, the last of the three books was, I know, the absolute truth. And it sickened me. It truly is what would happen in a time like that. I think you would absolutely enjoy? (wrong word perhaps?) reading them. Check them out at your leisure.

Stealth drone squadrons commanded by a single F35, C130 launched drone swarms and more...

Being retired, I have a lot of time on my hands....

So, I have often found myself wondering about goofy shit - like what it might have been like to be able to venture back in time - say, the 1600s or the 1700s and have todays armaments....It would a gas to see they reaction..

Kind of like watching that video - makes you wonder. I mean, my God..."Killing" is becoming so damned "impersonal" that it's almost antithetical - you push a button and 50 people die....

I don't know....I don't know if this is a good thing or maybe not.....

All of these space age tools of death certainly raise heavy questions, but I've long been fascinated by military tech... I can only imagine what we'll have when I'm your age 25 years from now

The Brits are getting ready to try their hand at a homegrown 5th generation stealth aircraft

The initial plans show a dual engine beauty thats far sleeker looking than Russias failed Su-57

She's a beauty. God I always loved the looks of their Spitfire.

The audio books, at least the first 2, are available for free on YouTube. Just search on the title. I warn you however, the narration is BAD. There's one person that does all the voices. It's a man with a deep voice and he does all the women and little girls.

It's downright disturbing.
