2012 Kansas City Royals Repository Thread

2012 Slogan: Our Time

A better, more accurate 2012 Slogan: It is Finally Next Year
(from Great Expectations)

An alternative slogan if you don't like that one: Someone has to win this crappy division
(from alnorth)

With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:

Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

Quote:
If you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

Is anyone honestly surprised?

Jackson County was completely f'n reeruned for not demanding more transparency and capital investment from the Royals before bending over and agreeing to their stadium demands.

Not only is Glasshole putting a shit product on the field, he is also now stealing from KC residents.

Kietzman had one of the board members (might not be exact title, but you get the gist) for the Sports Trust (again, could be ****ing up exact name, working from memory), and he conceded that there is little doubt that the lease agreement is a bad deal for taxpayers.

I was pretty surprised that he was willing to make that type of statement.

Now Keitzman go dig on the Chiefs lease while you are at. Oh wait, you are the Chiefs post game show home - so scratch that.

Sadly it is our apologetic, "We are lucky to have a team" that makes us suffer from something akin to battered woman syndrom.

Royals: It will be better, i promise baby, its "Our Time"?

Royals fan: Really?! Ok, Ill buy your tickets, your jerseys, watch your games..

100 losses and two black eyes later what have we learned?

****!!

Looks like we got a couple talented lottery tickets for Broxton, which is nice. Joseph will need to be on the forty man roster next year, though. It will be interesting to see how the roster gets juggled to insulate the Royals from the Rule 5 draft over the next few years.

Guys bolded (9 in all) are all easy to cut ties with.

Moore is going to need to get creative in swapping some of the marginal guys this offseason. Not a ton, but 2-3. Guys like Lough, Robinson, Coleman, etc. who are not part of the long-term plans but who can be used as a somewhat valuable trade commodity. An extra piece that helps get the job done.

Best-case scenario might be if Holland kicks ass as the closer down the stretch, and they move him at high value, maybe packaged with Mijares, a legit prospect, and a lottery ticket to bring in some starting pitching.

Bullpen guys are expendable. Especially when you have so many good young ones. The Royals won't want to go to arb with ALL of the rookie relievers from last year at the same time as they go to arb with Moose and Hosmer. Might as well move them before that happens, when you still have max leverage, for a key piece.

Well, is it illegal for the Royals to use taxpayer money to pay their own taxes?

That's the only part of the 810 story that might hold some weight from a legal issue. The other facts only itemize the type of things we already knew the Royals would do with the money.

The items listed on air by Keitzman are, by and large, things that I would think *any* ballclub would spend taxes on. The actual amount of the stimulus that the Royals have spent, as well as the issue of using taxpayer money to pay their own taxes, are very disconcerting. The rest is part of renovating any stadium in any city, for any sport.
