I've noticed in the playoffs it is in the teams best interest to take the early roughing penalty if they can knock other teams play makers out of the game.

Targeting seems to be encouraged in the post season.

Hell yes you take a roughing to get the other team gun shy. I learned early on, if you knock the pizz out of the guy across from you the first 2-3 plays, he won't want any part of you the rest of the game. If you get the other guy thinking about avoiding the concussion protocol half your job is done.

That's not a behavior I want to see in the playoffs. The qb is the most important in all of sports. You can't give teams a window to cheap shot a qb and take him out of the game. Even if you kick the guy out, that's not a fair trade for one team to lose the qb, and the other to lose a defender. Hell, why not just send a backup pass rusher into the game and have him clock the qb 5 seconds after the whistle. The player would get fined, kicked out, maybe suspended. But if the qb is knocked out of the game it would have been worth your while.

I think about how the saints won a Super Bowl by knocking qbs out of the game in consecutive weeks as we learned through a dirty bounty system. I think about how that cheap shot dick burfict changed the steelers playoff run last year by knocking Antonio Brown out with a concussion. Even when the defense plays clean, I think about how much it sucked for the Chiefs to put several players on concussion protocol against the colts.

Somehow the nfl has to figure out how you address targeting in the playoffs. I hate how much injuries influence games these days. Especially in the playoffs. I don't know how you do it. I don't want Dupree suspended. But its not a problem we should take lightly

That's a huge problem. And it's terrible for fans. Good playoff games have the best players on the field. It was bad enough having to watch a brutally unwatchable first round of the playoffs featuring backup qbs.
