Maybe they did want to go cheap, but Rivera is a guy I was really hoping Pioli would take a strong look at to coach the Chiefs.
Rivera played Buddy Ryan's 46, coached in Jim Johnson's 43 blitz scheme, coordinated a SB cover two defense, and turned around a struggling 34 defense in San Diego. The guy can coach.

They've hired 4 defensive coordinators in a a row. At least they're consistent(ly boring), I guess.

I would guess John Pagano, LB coach, if Rivera doesn't find a way to take him with him to Carolina.

I hope this works out for Rivera, he's a good guy and glad he's out of the AFCW.

Greg Manusky (former chief LB) is interviewing with AZ and also SD to replace Rivera. He was in SD under Marty and Phillips as LB coach before moving to SF as DC.

Most would assume that Harbaugh would take him with to SF but Vic Fangio is drawing interest in Dallas where Garrett's first choice is Mike Nolan but he is under contract so he is considering Fangio along with Todd Bowles.
As long as SD doesn't hire Rob Ryan i'll be happy.
