I think our D looked much worse than our Offense. We need a pass rush desperately. Obviously Gunther never bothered to do any research in the offseason on how to stop the screen pass. Our pass coverage was too soft, and just like last year, we can't stop the run late in the game. Can we remedy any of these problems in the next few weeks?

No. If the offseason wasn't enough to address these changes, they will not be addressed. Gun said 3 times he was going to get to the bottom of it and put a stop to it during the preseason. Empty words. He made his decision with his coaching staff, he's going to go down with it if that's where the Chiefs end up going. The only way we improve tackling is with a new coach and a new staff, because the current regime has had plenty of time to address it and hasn't gotten it done...

Wolf's right! Their fate was sealed by keeping the Stooges. We can only improve if we lose about 10 games, dump Schotz, and with the good draft pick chose a defensive stud. Of course the SAME could be said about the offense, though we did get a good draft pick in Morris. Anyway, the formula remains the SAME - dump Raye and hire a REAL OC and DRAFT a LEGIT feature back. Kill the Committee!

It's more than just dumping the coordiantors. We need to dump the coach too if things don't turn around quick. It's based on a mentality, and the mentality comes from the head coach. Gun, in keeping the 3 stooges, proved how clueless he is himself...

How to improve the defense? Keep playing the way they did today, and make good decisions with the high draft picks.

"If you play just hard without playing intelligent football then you're not going to win in this league. I think that's something we've really got to address. One of the disappointing things that I saw was a screen pass. That's something we've worked on and sure enough, it happened again. It's like a nightmare coming back, but we're going to get that solved."

-Gunther Cunningham

Bingo! The question is can YOU get the job done? I've heard that last scentence before...

Rewind a couple of years, and draft Jevon Kearse instead of John Tait.

I got blasted a couple of times in the offseason (by stevieray, I think) for referring to Gun as Mr. Magoo because of his blind loyalty to Three Stooges. Because of this loyalty, the ineptitude of this coaching staff could very wellcost Gun his job, a job he's been working for years to attain.

Chiefnj

does the 'nj' stand for New Jersey?

Just wondering because I was born in NJ and went to school there all my childhood life until joining the USAF in 1975. Retired from active duty now.

Drop me a line if you want to talk about it.

One way our defense could improve is if someone, ANYONE would tell them; "see that line right there? you don't jump across that line until the ball is snapped." Another way to improve is if someone, ANYONE, would memo the coaches and notify them that there should be eleven men on the field and prepared to play at the snap of the ball EVERY down. Can't argue with Kurt. We CONSISTENTLY line up in the neutral zone, CONSISTENTLY encroach, and I was amazed we didn't get flagged yesterday for having 12 men on the field.
We also have to (sorry for the broken record here) play receivers closer and bump them. Stud receivers like Harrison will have field days as long as they have 10+ yards to juke and accelerate to get separation. They have no fear because the don't "hear footsteps".

First, redo Williams contract and dump him like the mental case he is, what he had like 3 screw ups and wasn't even playing every down.

Second, give the young secondary time. Secondary is not something that anyone comes out the first year and looks great at. Look how we abused the Raiders rookie CB a few years ago, but now he is one of the best. Warfield, well that is a story I have no answer for.
