Chiefs Alternate History Madden Franchise: Can Joe Montana take KC back to the SB?

Return of Mals: Joe Montana Edition

Downloaded a 1993 NFL Roster updated for Madden 17 last night.

All teams and players are edited to reflect their 1993 counterparts. Steve Young, Troy Aikman, Warren Moon and JOE MONTANA are all on this roster along with every other starter AND backup from 1993. This roster is so accurate it has Andre Ware on the Lions. Titans serve as the Oilers, Texans and Jags are full of generic assholes.

Chiefs have Joe, Marcus, DT, Smith, Carter, etc. Whoever did this is a genious and even got the player equipment right. Faces are computer-generated and coaches are wrong, but can't have everything.

The goal: get the Chiefs back in the SB with Montana at starting QB. Franchise will run until Joe retires. Not allowed to switch QBs.

LET'S DO THIS!

Did you get sick of doing the YouTube vids for every single game?

And Christ, Troy Brown is like our #6 WR (THEIR DANGEROUS WIDE RECEIVER!!)? It's almost like you're playing with an all-decade team.

Absolutely, since no one was commenting. This is a team effort. I want to hear from the peanut gallery.

Troy Brown ain't shit BTW (73 OVR). In 1995 he had 16 career receptions. I'm just lucky he was in FA. He has very good hands, though, and will probably compete for a starting job next year, pending the offseason. Quinn Early is about done.

Offseason priority #1 is going to be finding another WR.

Well, I for one have enjoyed all the vids. And I have to admit I do chuckle watching Willie Davis just destroy teams, and I say that being a fan of Willie Davis back in the day. If he and Birden played back then like they do in the game, we might have won a couple of titles with Joe, lol.

THE 1996 OFFSEASON

The Chiefs lose QB Joe Montana and RT Chris Hinton to retirement. Other notable retirements:

Quote:
WR Jerry Rice
WR John Taylor
T Mark Tuinei
DT Tony Casillas
T Gary Zimmerman
S Dennis Smith
DE Greg Townsend
S Eugene Robinson
QB Phil Simms
LB Lawrence Taylor
LB Jesse Solomon
WR Gary Clark
DE Richard Dent
FREE AGENCY is a wild one.

Steve Young is so saddened by the Super Bowl loss and the retirement of Jerry Rice he chooses to leave San Francisco.

The 49ers sign Rich Gannon, whom asked for far too much money from the Chiefs, to a 3-year, $25M deal to replace him.

The big tickets:

Quote:
QB Steve Young, CIN
QB Jim Kelly, ATL
QB Boomer Esiason, CAR

HB Natrone Means, OAK

OLB Greg Lloyd, DEN
OLB Jessie Armstead, SEA

DE Shane Dronett, CHI

CB Rod Woodson, BAL
CB Troy Vincent, TB
The Chiefs re-sign Dale Carter to a 5-year, $30M deal, which is most of their money. However, they do make some key signings.

Quote:
85 OVR T Lomas Brown, 2 years, 2.13M - A CHEAP deal for a good player no one wanted at age 33 apparently. Handy replacement for Chris Hinton.

78 OVR WR Desmond Howard, 3 years, 3.15M - Deion's coming off kickoff returns. No more injuries. Could be a deep threat.
The 1996 NFL DRAFT

THE TOP 10

Quote:
1. LB Donnie Edwards, AZ
2. WR Terrell Owens, BAL
3. WR Keyshawn Johnson, JAX
4. DE Simeon Rice, NE
5. DT LaRoi Glover, CAR
6. LB Tedy Bruschi, WAS
7. CB Donnie Abraham, NYJ
8. QB Danny Kanell, NYG
9. LB Randall Godfrey, SD
10. DE Phillip Daniels, SEA
THE CHIEFS

Quote:
2.10 73 WR Eric Moulds
3.26 71 FS Darrius Johnson
3.32 70 TE JASON ****ING DUNN
4.15 66 WR Patrick Jeffers
5.17 76 DE Lance Johnstone
5.32 71 FS Anthony Dorsett
6.20 73 LG Heath Irwin
6.32 77 LB ZACH ****ING THOMAS
Analysis: Carl Peterson killed it. The Chiefs trade down and pick Moulds at 2.10 in the richest WR draft in NFL history. Dunn is the perfect blocking tight end, Lance Johnstone will be Neil Smith's replacement in a couple of seasons, Dorsett is a solid dev safety, Heath Irwin could start in a year or two at LG, and 77 OVR, SUPERSTAR DEV, ZACH ****ING THOMAS in the sixth round is the STEAL OF THE DRAFT.

The Chiefs have a new middle linebacker, and trade Tracy Simien to Baltimore for a 4th round pick.

Post draft cuts:

TE Wesley Walls
WR Ed McCaffrey
HB Herschel Walker (got old fast and lost his speed)
LB David Brandon (worst FA signing)
SS William White (ditto)

Other notable picks:

Quote:
1.30 FS Brian Dawkins, DAL
1.16 HB Eddie George, PHI
1.17 WR Marvin Harrison, ATL
1.15 RT Jon Runyan, OAK
1.12 LT Jonathan Ogden, CIN, who will block for Steve Young
1.24 WR Eddie Kennison, DEN

The Chargers get the "top" QB in the draft, picking Tony Banks in the third round.

The Texans add to their growing power with Ray Lewis and Terry Glenn.

The Redskins kill the draft with Tedy Bruschi, Pete Kendall, Jerome Woods and Joe Horn.

The Bills SLAY the draft with Stephen Davis, Carlos Emmons, Tyrone Williams and Tim Biakabutuka, if he can stay healthy in this alternate timeline.

The Patriots MURDER the draft with Simeon Rice, Lawyer Milloy, Ricky Dudley and KR Reggie Barlow. That team has also added Joey Galloway, Charles Haley and Todd Steussie in the last two years. Look out.

Worst pick in the draft: 1.29, Bobby Hoying, MIA
Oh and one more thing:

Spoiler!

TO 1996. ELVIS GRBAC AND RICH GANNON ARE COMPETING FOR THE STARTING JOB IN SAN FRANCISCO. LULZ

The 1996 schedule is lots of fun.

I play:

The up-and-coming Texans and rookie Ray Lewis
The Lions and prime Barry Sanders
The Packers and Brett Favre
The Dolphins and Dan Marino, they also signed Robert Smith in the offseason
The Vikings, who are now quarterbacked by Gus Frerotte, but John Randle vs Will Shields should be interesting.

On a very strange note, the Bills are now quarterbacked by Reggie Slack, who played in the CFL.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reggie_Slack

Whoever made this roster was thorough.
