No contract cell plans that let you keep your phone
I'm done with my Sprint contract, but am in no rush to get a new cell phone quite yet. Is there a no contract cell provider that lets you keep your existing phone? A quick google search yielded nothing.

I'm sure I've seen this discussed before around here.

Every one that I've seen makes you get one of their phones, though you can keep your number. The choices are pretty limited, too.

MetroPCS is testing it:

We'd heard rumors that T-Mobile would take advantage of its MetroPCS deal to offer bring-your-own-device service to more customers, and it isn't letting us down with the launch of MetroPCS' Bring Your Own Phone. Much like T-Mobile itself, MetroPCS can now offer its plans to customers with unlocked GSM phones. Don't be too quick to hop aboard, however. Only those in Boston, Dallas, Hartford and Las Vegas can switch service right away, and the carrier's official support is limited to Android, iPhone and Windows Phone devices. Should everything line up, though, Bring Your Own Phone is available today.

my wife just changed over to Virgin mobile. Bring your own device, and uses Sprint towers. At a third of the cost.

I looked at them, but saw this under FAQ:
"You cannot use a mobile phone from another wireless carrier, or any unlocked device. But it's the perfect excuse to get a new phone"

Be sure you know what connection speeds you'll be able to get. I know in the past, you could bring your own device to these plans, but would be limited to EDGE connection, and couldn't get 3G/4G. Not positive that is still the case, but be sure and check.

So how's this Ting Mobile working out for you, sedated? I'm on ATT and have 5 phones that I don't really want to have to upgrade. But I looked at Ting's coverage map and it appears that it's not real great unless you live in the southeast US.
