**Official USA vs Germany World Cup Match Thread**

USA vs Germany | Recife | Group G | 11 CT | ESPN

This is the big one.

If the United States ties or wins they advance to the knock out stage of the World Cup. There are also scenarios that are not that outlandish that let them move on if they lose but **** those scenarios.

I may be a USMNT troll, but I'm not a "soccer is dumb/boring" troll.

My post was less about football, more about Rugby, and nothing about soccer.

Nice try.

Turning on football on a Chiefs board is strange though.

Eh, I bitch about football plenty on here. I loved it 15 years ago, but it's not even the same game these days. I'm here more for the discussion than the Chiefs these days.

how is it strange? the game has changed and while it may be for the masses, the people that want to actually see "football in its purest" form are getting shafted. Football is mostly College ball now with the spread going on. I enjoy it, but not like i used too.

I was more trying to make a point about the absurdity of this post:

Rudy did you notice how Bradley was supposed to be marking the German striker who initially got his foot on the ball that led to the rebound goal from Thomas Muller?

It just seems to me that the amount of blows and the severity of the blows taken in soccer is far less than that of football.

I was getting ready to say that you don't hear many stories about former players offing themselves or slipping into dementia. But, I just remembered a story about a German goalkeeper who played for the national team that tossed himself in front of a train out of nowhere. Damn....

**** it, my son is going in a bubble.
No. I disagree here. With headers, if done right, you are delivering a blow to the ball, not the other way around, and there is hardly a real impact to speak of. The real concern is butting heads with a opposing player.

That said, my kid will be taught to never head the ball unless it's a pass, or a shot. Not b/c of concussion concerns(even though it's a valid issue), but b/c most headers are unnecessary, and do little to maintain possession. I hate inexperienced players who head everything that comes their way, even sky rocketing goal kicks from the other half if the field. Stupid. Trap the ball. Get it to your feet, control it, and find your teammates.

There is a great concern that the constant sub-concussive blows that a football player experiences start to pile up and have a detrimental effect.

I've only played a little bit of soccer, but I've had my bell rung a little bit on some headers before.
Were you the guy heading goal kicks from the other end off the field? Don't do that!

I really don't think most novice players realize the header zone of your head. Top of the forehead. Probably the same area a fighter would use to DELIVER a blow, not share one.

To be fair, when experienced players do it, it's because the ball is coming down in traffic and that is the highest point at which your can influence it. Trying to trap it and get it to your feet means that the defenseman is going to get to it above you and leave you holding your dork.

Yeah, in traffic is fair, but still, go somewhere with it.

I don't think that's possible due to physics.
