A Pet Naming Quandary
We're getting a new dog and are arguing about names.

My boys (5 and 7) have both settled on the name Chief.

It is wrong of me to not want this name for our new dog because I see it as something of an ill omen for the dog at this point. Is this how far we've sunk?


I'm still pushing for Hugo (a local restaurant, Hugo's, plays a significant role in our family's lives).

Should I just make peace with Chief as a name and have confidence that the pall hanging over the franchise has finally been lifted?

I don't really want to say to the kids, "Listen boys. The Chiefs suck. We don't really want to name our dog after a shitty team do we?"

sometimes I do like dogs that are named after a 'real' type of person name.

etc. no idea why. I think it's because i always browse the adoption sites, and some of the names crack me up while read them and looking at their pictures.

Chief Hogo. Most dogs learn to respond to more than one name and largely it depends on the tone of voice more than the actual words used. Get him used to both names and everyone is happy.
