Whats the coolest thing you've done at work?

I've been lucky to do a few cool things (ride alongs on ANG refueling flights, etc.) but this may have been one of my funnest moments...

What kind of cool stuff have you gotten to do on the job?

I landed in the middle of a wasteland northwest of Truth or Consequences 30-40 miles from the nearest paved road. There was a steer bone carcass on the "runway". The guy that I was flying was going to look at cattle.

When I was with a student doing ground reference maneuvers south of Cimarron, Ks., a B-1 bomber flew right in front of us about 1/4-1/2 mile out (really close in an airplane) 500 feet off the ground. My student almost shit and asked me what to do. I replied "enjoy it".

Flying into Riverside at Tulsa I was told to look for traffic at my 3 o'clock, 5 miles that was flying the same heading. I was thinking "Why the **** are they warning me for that?" It was a B-2 bomber flying in for the airshow. I told ATC "Have traffic in sight. Thank you". Reply "You're Welcome"

When I was on my CFII checkride the check airman and I were pretty much the only people in the air over Tulsa. It was a little over a week since 9/11 so traffic was non-existent. Very eerie. I was shooting the ILS 36R into TUL with the hood on even though it was spotty IFR. The check airman told me "you better take off the hood to check this out!". Pulled off the hood and there were 2 F-16's on the ramp at TUL waiting to take off at a moments notice. The airman said,"Probably a good thing that you didn't mess up that approach". Smart ass.

No exciting wood floor stories. Sorry.

I worked at a rock quarry when I was younger. Did almost every job there at one time or another. Drilling and loading a 360 load shot (blasting rock) light the fuse and gtfo. Cracked every foundation within 2-4 miles.

I co-founded and started a brand new school last year... so that's pretty cool and something that very few people have had the opportunity to do.

Probably the coolest thing about education is not what YOU do, so much as what your students end up doing. So yeah, my coolest student (other than the numerous Div 1 and professional athletes I've had) is probably the truffle kid, who I think I've talked about before. His book is here:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/...80-truffle-boy

I'm actually thanked in the foreword as having a major influence on his life and providing support, and it's pretty awesome to stay in contact with Ian and here about all the cool stuff he's constantly getting up to.
