Help from Microsoft Office Guru's...

Please don't delete/move until I get a couple of answers....

I have a Microsoft Access project due in the next couple of weeks, and was wondering if anyone could give me a hand with it. Basically it is just creating a database, and providing minimal security with it.

If anyone could give me a hand, or had a simplistic database that I could use as an example to work off of, it would be much appreciated. My instructor is a complete *ss, and I am running out of options. I am struggling through it, but a little help would really speed up the process.

Enormous rep to anyone that could lend a helping hand....

I am wanting to keep track of stats during the Big Ten season for each player.

There will be no hits or runs as I am keeping track of Iowa basketball stats...Or trying to at least.

You are creating a second table

When I go back into that second table, all it will allow me to do is put in the first and last players names from the Player table.

Follow along with the pics. Note that your version may be different than mine (Office 2003), but the similarities are so close you should be able to make them out.

In this pic I have already created the players and want to start a new table. Follow the red arrow and double click.

The pic below is what will open up.

Follow my instructions below and type in "Last Name". Then select "Lookup Wizard" where the arrow is pointing.

Follow the Wizard and select last name only. Do not select first name or ID.

Don't worry about sort order when the wizard asks. Just click on Next

Then make sure the width is big enough to read the entire name by dragging the right side. Click on Finish.

You will get the following Message "The table must be saved before relationships can be created. Save now?" Click on Yes and then give the file a name like Iowa BBall Stats. You will be asked for a primary key - for now just say no.

Repeat the entire process of pics below for First Name, selecting first name only and ignoring last name and ID.

Then put in the stats you want as shown below.

Make sure you select "Number" for all stats and make sure your numbers use the General Information listed below in the pic.

Now follow the instructions I gave below from this point

Your tables are done

Now click on queries
Much quicker here
Select Create Query by using Wizard
Find your table named Iowa BBall Stats
Click on the double arrows to send all fields over ">>"
Click on next
Click on finish
Click on the lower X in the upper right hand corner to close the query only

Your query is done

Now click on forms
Click on Create Form by Using Wizard
Find your query (DO NOT USE THE TABLE!!!)
Use the double arrows to shove all fields over
Click on next
select columnar
click on finish
Select your player from the drop down arrow
Enter all his stats in the corresponding boxes
Click on the lower x in the upper right hand corner to close the forms only.

Your forms are done

Click on Reports
Click on Create Report Using Wizard.
Follow the prompts and your report will be complete.

Open the report when complete and print

After creating a first player table and a last player table like you said to do with the wizard, I save it, and when I go back in to enter my stats, all it will allow me to do is enter the players first name/last name. It doesn't allow me to enter the stats. How do I do that?

That's because you have yet to create the query and the form.

Continue follow my instructions below. Create the query, create the form, then you can open forms and enter the data directly.

Ok, I have created the queries and reports, however there is no drop down arrow to select each player. There are 5 or so fields like last name, first name, ppg, rpg, etc. But it won't let me enter a name into the First/Last name category. Only a number. How do I correct this???

You have saved the original table incorrectly.

1. Close all open tables, queries, forms, and reports. Leave Access open

2. Click on the relationships icon at the top center of the program

3. Right click on all lines between boxes and select Delete

4. Close the relationships table, but leave Access open

5. Click on Tables on the left

6. Single click on Iowa BBall Stats

7. Select the Design View icon at the top left.

8. Click on the Data Type of "Last Name"

9. Select Lookup Wizard

10. Leave the selection at "I want to lookup...."

11. Click Next

12. Click Next again

13. Select "Last Name"

14. Click Next

15. Click Next

16. Click Finish

17. Click Yes to "the table must be saved now...."

18. Repeat steps 8 - 17 using first name instead of last name.

That should fix it.
