If not #1, where?

The draftniks keep saying that Geno Smith isn't worth the #1 pick.
None of them say he isn't the top QB in the class though.
If we don't take him at #1 how far is he realistically going to fall?

I see no scenario where he falls out of the Top 10.

So if he's the top QB in a weak class...
QB is our biggest need...
And he's gonna go Top 10 anyway...

Why not at #1?

Am I wrong to say he won't fall out of the Top 10?

Lol the kid is far ahead of Geno. He's already comfortable running a pro offense. Alot of people would agree that Geno's stock has been victimized by WVU's D. I mean there's no question he can make the throws. The thing with him, is sometimes he doesn't do well under pressure. A lot of scouts people didn't like what they saw in that K-SU game where buddy was making wrong reads, throwing into coverage, and was rattled by pressure.

there are really only a couple of realistic options

1. Reid thinks Geno is the guy and he is taken at #1
2. Reid thinks someone else is the guy like Tyler Wilson and trades down 5 spots or so
3. Reid thinks no one is the guy and picks Luke J

i've posted a couple "trade down and get Geno later posts" but you guys are right that if he is top 7 then get him at #1

right...probably should watch Smith play

staying in the pocket and keeping his eyes down field in the face of pressure is his strong suit...his OL was mostly a sieve, and the offense was always playing catchup

jesus, watch the 4th quarter of the OU game...throw after ****ing throw in the face of pressure

but I guess since 1 game determines his whole career (past and future), and since 'a lot of scouts' (you didn't link to) said so...that's that

No one's saying Geno is a bad pick. In fact, he's accurate enough to be brought along as the season progresses in Reid's system, like the Seahawks did with Wilson. It's just a no brainer that Bridgewater is already more NFL ready, as a TruSoph, than he is.

Show me evidence, because i can't find any.

And even IF he is everything you want to say he is, what makes you think we'll even be in a position to draft him?

Chiefs don't need a QB, duh.

We have Ricky ****ing Stanzi!... He's practically Nick Foles and Kirk Cousins, besides the whole being good enough to suit up on Sunday.

Like I said before, chances are you probably won't be. An veteran QB like Cassel should (but who knows) at least get you 5 to 6 wins under Andy Reid. Bridgewater will be gone by the second pick (Maybe third depending on the team's needs) because people feel like Clowney will go number (That was pre-the Florida massacre, lol) But David Fales will be available. The dude's the best kept secret in college ball.

And if it's evidence you want, it's evidence you'll get lol. Just give me a minute

I've watched every single Louisville game this year. This kid made leaps this year from what I saw from his freshman year. I spotted a few minor things in his game in the first few games of this season that could be tweaked, but nevertheless I was content with what I saw. I felt like starting next year those minor adjustments would be made, but little did I know he wouldn't need next year.

He's made progress throughout the course of the season that would take others this year and a whole offseason to fix, and it was pretty obvious with each game he played. There's not a better play-action passer in CFB than him, and this kid has great footwork (Very similar to Peyton's), pocket presence, awareness, and reads coverage better than almost anyone I've seen this year. On top of that he makes great pre-snap adjustments. I mean this is, again, a TRUE SOPHMORE, making dummy calls at the Line of scrimmage. If I didn't know who this kid was when watching him this year, I'd think he was Peyton Manning.

IMO, at the moment, he's where Luck was when luck was getting all the hype his senior year. Scary thing is he's most likely gonna get better, and if that happens there's no doubt in my mind he can still the #1 pick from Clowney ( But of course that depends on the team that has the first pick. A team like Arizona would most definitely take him)

Look at the little things he does, such as looking off safeties(Especially on some of the throws in the game against RU) . And also check his footwork in the Rutgers game where he's had to come off the bench to play on a badly sprained ankle.

-- And the Florida massacre when he played with pins in his wrist.

Chiefs tamp down expectations for this year’s first overall draft pick

Posted by Michael David Smith on January 18, 2013, 1:16 PM EST
NBC Sports

New Chiefs General Manager John Dorsey has a big decision ahead of him with the first overall pick in the NFL draft. But he wants Chiefs fans to understand that this year’s draft is not like last year’s draft.

Dorsey said on 610 Sports Radio in Kansas City that the 2012 draft, with Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III at the top and a lot of talent beyond those two, was the kind of draft that doesn’t come along every year. Or even every decade.

“That’s one of those drafts that come along every two decades, maybe every three decades, when you have that many impact players,” Dorsey said.

So what about this year? Dorsey says that just because the Chiefs would like to find a franchise quarterback, that doesn’t mean they’re going to draft a quarterback first overall if they don’t determine that there’s a quarterback worthy of going first overall.

“I will never attempt to reach or jump on a player just for need’s sake,” Dorsey said. “We’re not going to do that here.”

Asked if it’s still possible that the Chiefs will stick with Matt Cassel as their starting quarterback in 2013, Dorsey said, “Well, you never say never.”

That’s not exactly a ringing endorsement of Cassel. But it also may turn out that Cassel is the best option the Chiefs have.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).
