***Official Knowmo2724 homer-2000 thread***

Very few non-bronco fans can tolerate him. he creates inane threads that are homeristic in nature (his avatar is very apropos), and nobody loves him (not even his own mother)

'face, this can be the home for all knowmo threads so we aren't treated to the bi-weekly steaming 'presents' left by the front door.

Tebow reportedly turning down 7-figure endorsement deals to focus on football

Tim Tebow lost out on a handful of endorsement opportunities this spring because of his pro-life Super Bowl commercial, but Tebow is also reportedly saying no to plenty of companies, as well.

Tebow has been working out in Memphis the past two weeks while living with his agent, Jimmy Sexton, and Tebow says in today’s Memphis Commercial-Appeal that he has turned down multiple seven-figure endorsement opportunities because he thought they would get in the way of his football preparation.

And that would be seven figures per year, the Commercial-Appeal reports.

“I’m trying to work hard and not get my mind cluttered with all that,” Tebow told the newspaper about endorsement deals that come his way. “When it gets to the point when something needs to be presented to me, I see it. Right now, it’s all ball for me.”

Already, Tebow has signed endorsement deals with two major companies — Nike and EA Sports, the latter of which will use Tebow as the cover boy for its NCAA Football 2011 video game. Sexton told the Commercial-Appeal that he has received a flood of endorsement opportunities for Tebow.

“Within the next five years, Tim clearly has a chance to be one of the most endorsable athletes on the planet,” Sexton said. “I had one CEO of a major Fortune 500 company tell me, ‘You know what, Jimmy? For a corporation to put a face on their brand, this guy (Tebow) is the real deal. He’s the one guy who’s not going to be a scandal two or three years from now.’”

The NFL bars rookies from working out at their team facility right now, so Tebow has been staying in Memphis to try to avoid the spotlight. He has been working out at local private high schools, even performing football drills with the high school athletes.

“I got in a lot of good work, and I met a lot of good people,” Tebow told the newspaper. “It was so much fun to get back in high school facilities, to get back to your roots and just know that level is where you started. I worked, hung out and just had a great time.”

Of course, Tebow’s whereabouts didn’t stay quiet for long.

“It was the craziest thing I’ve ever seen,” Sexton said. “I’ve never had a family knock on my door at 2 in the afternoon, asking me if Tim Tebow was staying in my house. I never had phone calls from so many parents with available 21-year-old daughters wanting to meet Tim. They all know he’s that good a guy and that good a player, and he has a hard time saying ‘No.’”

The Commercial-Appeal also reports that Tebow took batting practice one day with the Memphis University School varsity baseball team — and hit 12 of 15 pitches out of the park.

“The kids were just awed by how far he hit the ball,” Sexton said. “The best thing about Tim is he thinks he’s just another guy and acts that way. He’s oblivious to everything going on around him. He doesn’t think he’s a big deal. I asked him the other day how he stayed so humble, how come he didn’t get the big head compared to a lot of other athletes.”

Finally, Tebow said he has been trading texts with Broncos legend John Elway, who said last week that “we got a great competitor and something that gives us hope.”

“I’ve texted back and forth with him (Elway), and that’s truly an honor,” Tebow said. “He has been very supportive of me. He’s one of the all-time best.”

Broncos' Dumervil to return to Denver

Broncos star outside linebacker Elvis Dumervil is scheduled to return to Denver on Sunday and is expected to be at Dove Valley when the team holds its first voluntary organized team activity starting Monday morning.

It is unclear if Dumervil will participate in the on-field practices because he has not signed his restricted free-agent tender, but that fact he is showing up could be a sign of goodwill between Dumervil and the team.

Dumervil has not attended the Broncos' voluntary conditioning program that started in March.

"I think we'll see Elvis on Sunday, and we're looking forward to that," coach Josh McDaniels said this afternoon, after giving the keynote speech at the scholarship luncheon for the John Lynch Foundation at Invesco Field at Mile High.

Dumervil has until June 15 to sign the tender that will guarantee him a salary of $3.168 million in 2010. Dumervil, who led the NFL in sacks and made his first Pro Bowl in 2009, is in line for a major contract, perhaps on par with the $38 million guaranteed that Terrell Suggs received from the Ravens before last season.

Dumervil is the last of the Broncos restricted free agents to remain unsigned. Quarterback Kyle Orton and right guard Chris Kuper signed their tenders, so they could work out with the team this spring. Brandon Marshall and Tony Scheffler signed their tenders just before both players were traded in April.

This probably means a longterm contract is in the works because he wasn't obligated to show up to voluntary camp.

Krieger: The next Elway? Oh, c'mon now

By Dave Krieger
The Denver Post
Posted: 05/18/2010 01:00:00 AM MDT

John Elway (Denver Post file photo)

Like Jay Cutler, Jake Plummer and Brian Griese before him, Tim Tebow got the John Elway question on his first day.

"I'm not really worrying about it," he said, and you can only hope that's true. At least nobody asked what kind of tree he would be.
Seriously, can we just stop?

I thought we'd kicked our Elway comparison fetish with Kyle "Pro Bowl" Orton. Even in a fragmented media world in which the silliest claims get the most attention, I didn't hear anyone compare Orton to Elway.

Before that, we always found some slender straw to grasp. Griese actually succeeded Elway — we're pretending that weird Bubby Brister thing never happened, OK? — so he got the questions full force until Mike Shana- han took the heat off by comparing him to Joe Montana instead.
Plummer was a scrambler, a risk-taker, an improviser. That was the only common ground with Elway we required.

Cutler had the big arm, so we went back to the well again.
The main thing Tebow has in common with Elway at this point is celebrity, which, as Brady Quinn can tell you, doesn't have that much to do with whether you get to play in the NFL.

In fact, Quinn had the best answer of the day to an Elway question. Unlike Tebow, he wasn't asked about being compared to Elway because, amazingly, he hasn't been, although I'm guessing we'll correct that by training camp.

No, Quinn was asked if there was a brighter spotlight on the quarterback competition in Denver because of Elway's legacy.
"I don't know, don't discredit Bernie (Kosar) now," the Cleveland refugee said with a laugh. "Come on."

When Elway first arrived on the scene 27 years ago, the fascination was based principally on three things. First, he was controversial nationally because he had forced Baltimore to trade him. Tebow may be controversial politically, but the football world doesn't really care.

Second, Elway had a howitzer where you and I and Tebow have a shoulder. Long before he became an accomplished quarterback, Elway was a huge attraction because he might uncork a 70-yard rocket at any time. Many people had never seen an arm like that. I know I hadn't. He was part football player, part Ripley's Believe It Or Not exhibit.

There was little evidence in college, and none Monday at Dove Valley, that Tebow has that sort of rocket launcher.Third, Elway was the No. 1 pick in the draft, almost unanimously considered the best player available in 1983. The Broncos had never before acquired such a prized commodity.Tebow was the 25th pick in the draft, and a fair number of teams had him ranked lower than that. The closer comparison in Broncos history on that basis is Tommy Maddox, the 25th pick in 1992 as Dan Reeves prepared prematurely for Elway's departure. Reeves' pick was called a reach in some quarters, as was Josh Mc- Daniels' pick of Tebow this year.

But no one asked Tebow how he was going to deal with the Tommy Maddox comparisons.

Covering the Broncos back in the 1980s, I used to think that if major- league baseball ever came to Colorado, we wouldn't spend nearly so much time documenting our football team's offseason study halls.

Like so many things I believed in the '80s, this turned out to be completely wrong. Maybe Def Leppard wasn't the greatest band of all time, either. I just don't know anymore.

There was roughly one media wretch for every 7-on-7 repetition Monday at the Broncos' first full team workout of 2010.

Well, unless you count Tebow's fake repetitions, in which case there were two reps for every wretch, but one of them was pantomimed. For most of the morning, whenever Orton, Quinn or Tom Brandstater took a snap in the 7-on-7 drill, Tebow, standing well behind the line of scrimmage, pretended to take the same snap and drop, sort of like an on-deck hitter timing his practice swing to the pitch.

"We're changing some stuff with our offense," McDaniels said later. So maybe Tebow was just practicing, and maybe they have some really innovative new formations planned for 2010.

Either way, Tebow is no Elway. And we will do him and everybody else a favor if we kick the habit of pretending he is. More than a decade after Elway retired, this tick of ours is like nicotine. We might need a patch.
On the first day of his first full team workout, Tebow checked down rather than throw deep. He looked like a rookie trying to learn an NFL playbook for the first time, with a steep learning curve in front of him.

Which, coincidentally, is exactly what he is.

If he keeps working like that he will be.

Also with some great Broncos news...

McDaniels: Dumervil ‘Deserves’ New Contract

Josh McDaniels was clear when asked whether Elvis Dumervil was a part of the team’s long-term plans.

“Yes,” the head coach said shortly after Dumervil returned to Dove Valley in time for the Broncos’ first passing camp session Monday. “Nothing imminent, but we’re working together on the thing to try and make sure that he’s a Bronco for a long time.”

I know it’s a work in progress, but I know everything will take care of itself,” Dumervil added.

“Both parties are talking … I feel like both parties want to get something done.”

Because he did not sign a restricted-free-agent tender, Dumervil was technically not under contract Monday, and signed an waiver against potential injury before taking the field.

“At the end of the day, I’m going to be a Bronco in 2010, so I wanted to get the mental reps and get with the guys.”

Dumervil, quite obviously, wants the contract done. So do his teammates — and perhaps most importantly, McDaniels.

“He deserves it,” the coach said.

I never said the Broncos would win the AFCW this year. I think we will have at least 10 wins this season though.

So, right now ... you're going with 'at least' 10. Not me.

Again, much like last year I'm taking a more realistic (devils advocate) approach to this season. Time has jaded me a bit, so I'm less "hopey homer" than I was in my 20s.

Denver has been .500 within the AFCW since 2006, so no reason at this point to get too crazy with thoughts of divisional dominance.

So, I'll start with 3-3.

Home:
Seahawks / Colts / Jets / Rams / Texans

Away:
Jax / Titans / Ravens / SF (London) / Cardinals

There are 5 games in blue that I'm comfortable with notating as a possible win - taking them to 8 wins.

Colts, Jets and Texans in Denver = Incredibly Tough ... The Broncos are .500 in Denver the last 2 seasons... I need to see that this team is NOT the same bunch on defense that let Oak and KC beat them in Denver last year before I feel comfortable with those 3 offenses visiting.

I'm not 100% liking their chances in Jax - it's Florida in September and that historically is a bad thing. Games against the Titans and Ravens will be SICK SICK SICK ... again, they have a better shot if the defense is genuinely improved.

I'm not a gambling man, but even if I were... I don't think I could confidently bet any money at this point on 10 wins...

That sounds more like it to me,but Im not saying the Broncos can't win 10,I just find it hard to bank on at this point.I see KC winning 5-6,and maybe with a lil luck and a few breaks maybe 8,but I wouldn't bank on it.Den,and Oak both got better IMO,not too sure about SD yet but I expect the AFCW to be more competitive this year than last.I don't expect us to do much till we get rid of Cassel and learn how to develop our own QB.Maybe we'll be much better, but I doubt it will be because of Cassel.Thats just my honest take on it.

At this point, it's still such a crapshoot...

SD is still the team to beat, they have a fine young nucleus and Ryan Matthews has all the ability to do well - I like the dual threat at RB they have now. I don't think they're one of the 'elite' teams, but they are damn good.

Oakland gets better simply by making the QB switch, they have a ton of work to do, but maybe Campbell brings and extra something to the table that they have really missed.

KC and Denver both have made interesting moves... we've discussed them all in depth, no need to repeat.

I think SD obviously has the best change (right now) to hit 10-12 wins... but, the other three teams should make it more competitive without question.

I think we're a good year away from getting back to really solid divisional play in the AFCW.
