Football Ohio State third-string QB Cardale Jones: “Classes are pointless” - Page 2

Ohio State third-string quarterback freshman Cardale Jones gave his opinion on Friday via Twitter about what he thinks about attending class, reports the Detroit Free Press.

“Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain’t come to play SCHOOL classes are POINTLESS,” he wrote on Twitter.

Jones’ twitter account has since been deleted.

Jones is in his first season at Ohio State and hasn’t played this season. He will likely redshirt, and is behind behind Braxton Miller and Kenny Guiton on the depth chart.

Jones spent a year at a prep school in Virginia to take care of his academics after signing with the Buckeyes out of Cleveland Glenville High last year.

How can you prove that "most student athletes are quite bright"? Do you have a source, or are you just speaking based on anecdotal evidence? Also, it depends on your definition of "well". My experience with athletes in classes is a few of them are dedicated students (I even have a few in my MD class), but a lot of them are not "bright" by college standards, as you put it.

That said, most student athletes do benefit from having structure (respective sport and school) in their lives, along with the degree. Whether they are actively engaged or not, they still have an opportunity to get an education and are learning more than they would if they didn't have the opportunity.

I agree with him for the most part. They were not recruited to get an education. They were recruited to get on TV and make money for the AD.

Unfortunately for him, he signed a FB LOI. And there is no real well paying minor league football association. They wrap em up nice and tight in those football LOI's. If he wanted to sign a minor league baseball deal he could get paid and still go to school, he probably should have tried that route.

They do well in the cupcake classes that are selected for athletes. This doesn't make them good student athletes. Ohio State is a notoriously dirty program and that's why they are constantly under investigation.

I think at Ohio State, the fact that he bothered to show up at class to see that they are pointless is considered admirable.

Someone in town will probably give him some free tattoos as a reward.

"80,000 people don't show up to watch a kid do a chemistry experiment"

True on so many levels....I mean how was Brandon Rush eligible to play for Kansas when there were stories from people that took classes with him, said that he could barely read.

It's 18 or 19 year old kid.
What the hell does HE know?

That kid is being used by the school to make money.
The EDUCATION is his "pay".
If he or any kid walks away from college after 4 years without an education
the school and coaches should be dragged over the coals for not teaching him.
