Not sure how they would plan to route these things, but if Amazon drones are constantly flying over your yard or property, you might not like it too much. People owning the property will likely want compensation for use of their airspace or could refuse it.

Property owners typically are considered to own/control the "usable" airspace above their property (that's why Southwest can fly a plane over you). But "usable" is vague and I don't know how high these things fly, but I'm sure this is an issue Amazon will have to deal with.

Bezos is starting to seem like a James Bond villian to me. The bald head, the "take over the world"-type aspirations...he just starting to seem a bit creepy to me.

Seems like it would get pretty messy delivering to apartment buildings. Will they take it to the actual apartment or leave it at the lobby? And if they leave it at the lobby there might be a pile of 20 packages sitting there.

I think that problem exists today for people living in multifamily buildings, and there's no telling what the delivery service will do.

For me, the mail stuffs it in your mailbox or makes you come to their office if it won't fit. UPS will leave it sitting outside your door just like a house, unless it requires signature and then they try for a few days and if you still miss them you've got to go to their distribution center. FedEx won't leave stuff at the door, they take it to the property office sometimes or redeliver or make you come to them sometimes.

This is all if they can get inside the building. If no one is around to let them in, who knows what they will do.

The system is already pretty inconsistent.

Because they're trying to the same thing scouting fields in ag. There are some really cool things that can be done with NDVI and infrared, but the FAA makes non-line of sight flight all but impossible, at least economically impossible.

The tech is easy. Real easy. Like <$1,000 per unit easy. The regulations are tough.

Well what about even just a regular house? I doubt these things can manuever so precisely as to set it nicely on your front porch. If they just drop it in the middle of the yard or driveway, there's anywhere from a good to 100% chance that package is getting stolen, depending where you live.

I'm thinking these kids might be onto something... Build the robot and you might one of the lucky few who remain employed.. My kids are both athletes AND big into robotics, so I hope it leads to a good variety during their years as kids, and a future that's second to none... And, WOW, they love it all...

I would think that would pertain more to safety issues and not issues with property owners.

Isn't that current-state? UPS packages are stolen off porches all the time.

Presumably, one could opt-out of this service if you'd prefer snail mail or the brown truck bringing it instead of the drone.

I don't know how often packages left on a porch are stolen, but a package closer to street, like in the middle of a yard or driveway would be a lot more visible and more inviting to a thief.

I suppose if you choose drone service, they could make you confirm that you will be home in the next hour or whatever to receive the delivery though.
