Half Life 2 revisited
Reading through the Dead Rising thread, Zooted Granny mentioned Half Life 2. OF course I think, "I have that" Let's play it on a harder difficulty!"
Well, a couple of weeks later, I think I have developed carpal tunnel from that game. I'll be sending all medical expenses in care of one Granny, Zooted. I see where they are continuing the story with three "mini games". Has anybody picked up the first installment yet? |

Good game, I really liked the Ravanholm part. Doubt I'll pick up the mini-games though.

From what I understand, nothing has changed for the mini-games as far as engines or installments. It's the same game, just continued. |

I've had HL2 Episode I sitting on my hard drive for months. I have yet to play it. I'm a lazy pirate.

I bought and played through Episode 1 twice. It's definitely worth the money. Alyx fighting alongside you really adds a lot to not only the story but the gameplay experience and they introduced a couple of new twists on the physics puzzles. It also has a running in-game commentary that you can turn on, which, for me, was incredibly interesting and something I hope becomes a standard feature for all genres of games.
Episode 2 was recently delayed a few months, and I think now it comes out early next year, along with Team Fortress 2 & Portal, which both look AMAZING. Valve is actually refining the Source engine to include soft shadowing and new lighting. You should be able to see the difference in the trailer. HL2 Ep 2 trailer: http://www.xboxyde.com/leech_2972_1_en.html TF2 trailer: http://www.xboxyde.com/leech_2981_1_en.html Portal: http://www.xboxyde.com/news_3186_en.html Also, if you have a 360, Valve is putting together a package of HL2, HL2:E1, HL2:E2, Portal & Team Fortress 2 to simultaneously release with HL2:E2. |

Am I wrong in hoping they incorporate the Portal gun into the Episode 3 storyline? Last edited by Bowser; 08-18-2008 at 09:40 AM.. |

When I read the hype for Bioshock, I always harken back to HL. Bioshock, to me, is not original... sure, the storyline is different and the graphics are way better, but I've played games like it before... like Half Life (not taking anything away from Bioshock - I love the game) Half Life is the platform which brought Team Fortress back to prominence. I liked it in Quake, but it frigging ruled in the HL engine (until they nerfed the grenades that is). Half Life is the platform that introduced Counterstrike, which was the tits until beta 6. I would love to see the original Half Life redone with a new dazzling engine. That would be badass.

Valve is releasing a super-duper version with all of the fixins for the 360 and PS3.

Seriously, how hard would it be to enable support for a mouse and keyboard in 360 games? They've already got the ability to attach a USB keyboard to the 360 for typing. Why are they holding out on us? |

Episode 1 was great. Picks right up where HL2 leaves off.
