Terrible towels

Whats up with people waving those yellow towels. Do they hand them out or do people bring them to the game? What is the purpose of them? Does is give the steelers a competitive edge or are they just handy when you spill beer on yourself. It seems to me, the stadium would be quieter with them, cant beat on a seat or cup your hands to yell.

I just never understood...

It's for wiping the tears away after they get beat at home in the AFC title game every year.

Before you make fun of them, I believe the Chiefs were one of the first fans to do it. They had a thing called the Wolfpack back in the 70's and everyone waved the red towels. It didn't last long 'cause nobody was showing up...
