It would have been more sensible to just have the match be announced via a graphic on Smackdown, or just happen randomly as an extra championship match (!!!!!), than that idiotic segment leading up to it.

Meltzvarez stuff today:
Quote:
--Shaquille O'Neal confirmed that he would be at WrestleMania this year on Saturday night. O'Neal was hosting the Cartoon Network Hall Games awards and said he would be there, but didn't say if he would be wrestling Big Show.

--Tonight is the start of the WrestleMania season. Tonight's big angle is to be an Undertaker confrontation with HHH to help build their match. They should also be promoting Rock's return which will be on the 2/27 Raw show and a clear slate for building matches since there are no other major events left to promote, although some of tonight's show will be promoting the live Smackdown tomorrow night in Rockford. They are advertising locally John Cena vs. Kane and C.M. Punk vs. Dolph Ziggler, but one or both could be dark matches.

--For Rockford tomorrow, there is expected to be a Raw presence and C.M. Punk has been advertised locally for the show.

--Both Punk and Chris Jericho were doing videos after the show strongly hinting Punk vs. Jericho will be the Raw title match at Mania.

--On the WWE's annual post-Mania tour of Europe, Kane is working a lot of Smackdown brand shows with Randy Orton. The advertised title matches are C.M. Punk vs. Chris Jericho and Daniel Bryan against either Big Show or Sheamus. There is a Cena vs. Kane last man standing match scheduled for 4/16 in London and Bryan vs. Show in a no DQ and no count out match for the title on 4/17 in London. (thanks to Cohen Morrison)

x100 at the first 15 minutes of Raw.

Just give me a 2 hour Punk-Jericho promo. Couldn't be half as bad as the crap they'll show tonight.

I'm used to it. He's the exact same character he was in 2003 and has been since. The way of building his character & advancing storylines is to win every match clean & act like a jackass but still get cheered.

Although I liked that Funkman-Teddy segment. What kind of match did they announce for who's gunna face Punk? Missed that part.

10 man battle royal.

Talk about screwing over the Royal Rumble.

They're doing everything they can to **** up this angle. Watch them drop Jericho altogether.

Punk vs. Orton rematch from last year!

On that note, Bryan vs. Sheamus was the dark match before last year's Mania.... Crazy the difference a year makes.

DAMN.

Taker-HHH 3 in Hell in a Cell? Didn't see that coming. I'm actually excited for it, cause they'll probably (hopefully) break out the weapons & bloodguts.

And I loved how HHH didn't mind being called a coward, but **** you if you call him 2nd best to HBK (which he is).

...

Now Cena's stealing the lines that Punk pwned him with last summer to crap all over The Rock. FU, Cena.

And Punk needs to be a commentator when he's done wrestling (which, God willing, will be a long long long time from now). This is amazing.

I think Ziggler was just selling, but Wade appeared to break his arm. You could see his reaction immediately. And then after the match, right when Jericho hit the floor after the stare-down, the first thing he did was ask a ref "what happened to wade?"

The end didn't work quite as well as it should have, Cody seemed to have trouble getting Slow out, but that was a pretty fun battle royal.

For HHH/Taker, if I'm going to be stuck watching them again, I like Hell in a Cell better than Last Man Standing, which had been the rumor.

I hated the Cena stuff. They sound on first glance like they're trying to turn the "universe" on the Rock. Like they forgot that Mania is in Miami. Stupid. But maybe that's how they'll heel up Cena, by having him talk trash to the more popular face. Turn him without turning him.

Rock's going to slaughter him on the mic next week.

I also think it would be a lot better if Cena would just drop the stupid comedy and make it serious and personal. It was kind of interesting how he seemed to be reverting back a few years to the thug stuff.

Ah well, I'm actually going to watch Smackdown tomorrow night, for Punk and Danielson.

I can't believe they're using that match as the big selling point for the show. But I love that they are.

While Cena made some good points, I do think this is the only way they can make him the heel in his match with the Rock. As good as Cena is, his star was and may never be as bright as the Rock's. I remember a few years ago before the Rock all but left indefinitely (sans a Wrestlemania here and there) when they tried hard to make him a heel and the fans would not bite. I give him and the WWE credit for trying, but he was such a face by then that making him a heel was all but impossible.

One thing I forgot: I love the way the show was structured. Yeah, I hated the Cena shit at the beginning, and I hated the Cena shit near the end, but the reality is the focus of the show was the last few minutes. Which was CM Punk, Chris Jericho, and the WWE ****ing Championship. So for the first time in I can't remember how long, guys fighting for, among other things of course, the goddamn belt, which should be the biggest deal every week, closed the show. HHH and Taker got the middle of the show. Cena jerked the curtain. The champ and the new number 1 contender got the overrun. Exactly how it should be.

(I honestly thing that could do more for the company than anything else right now: making the titles meaningful again. Storylines are important, but it's so much easier to buy into things if people have real things to feud over. Just simple things, like "I'm better than you." You don't need Kane trying to get Cena to embrace Eve, I mean hate.)
