****Official 2013-14 Missouri Tiger Football Repository Thread****

We have two things to look forward to this year:

1) The potential beginning of the Maty Mauk Era. Mauk represents the best chance for this program to get back to a level of respectability after horrendous QB play cost us multiple games last year.

2) The last year of the Gary Pinkel era. Pinkel's entrenched cronyism won't play in a conference this competitive, especially if he couples his abysmal gameday coaching with lackadaisical, worst-in-conference recruiting. Pinkel was the formerly adequate meal that has now turned into a four pound bowel obstruction. It's time to jam a Fleet's enema up our collective asses.

Here is the schedule. We dodge Alabama, LSU, and Arkansas in the west and the Non-con is decidedly weaker than years past.

8/31: Murray State
9/7: Toledo
9/21: @ Indiana
9/28: Arkansas State
10/5:@ Vanderbilt
10/12: @ Georgia
10/19:Florida
10/26: South Carolina
11/2:Tennessee
11/9: @ Kentucky
11/23: @ Ole Miss
11/30: aTm

Looks like 6-6. Undefeated in non-con, 2-6 in league play.

I will eventually update the OP with a list of high profile in-state recruits that decide to go elsewhere after a half-assed attempt to gain their services. The inevitable cavalcade of *** rejects, skeezers, skanks, and scalliwags we get will fill out the ranks.

Razors, cyanide capsules, and Jonestown Kool-Aid are available in the break room. Second door on the left.

Since every Mizzou thread eventually dies of AIDS, I recommend starting anti-retroviral therapy immediately. I believe Walgreens covers Express Scripts.

Premium In-State Players:

Roderick Johnson: **** OT, Florissant, MO.
Monte Harrison: **** WR, Lee's Summit, MO.
Jimmy Swain: **** LB, Lee's Summit, MO

Commitment List: From to and possibly

Spoiler!

Not the first injury, either. Gators have 5 opening day starters who are out for the season, if I'm recalling correctly what I saw yesterday. That includes its best defensive tackle, starting quarterback and starting running back. A true freshman RB (son of Fred Taylor) is expected to get a large portion of the carries.

Ron Powell, Florida's best defensive end, is also questionable with a bad ankle.

My point: Florida isn't exactly at full strength, either.
The key is Mauk's ability to make some plays and not turn the ball over. The reality is none of us really know what's going to happen w/ him as we haven't seen enough to know if he's ready for this moment or not. It would be more than understandable if he struggles regardless of how good he may ultimately be.

Save for the part where the starting QB blows out his shoulder and now a RS Freshman QB, who by all accounts was terrible in spring practices, now has to helm the ship for the hardest part of the schedule.

Florida is facing a lost season. Cold and rainy could be enough for them to pack it in.

They still have to play at Mizzou, at Georgia, at South Carolina and against Florida State. They are without their QB, without their best offensive player (RB), and without their best defensive player (DT).

I don't know how mentally tough Florida is, and I'd like to find out.

Rain allows inferior offensive teams to stay around for longer than they should because it limits the ways the superior team can score and it brings in additional fluky elements, like fumbles and slips. If you truly believe Missouri is the superior team, you shouldn't hope for rain.

At Mizzou will be tougher than Georgia IMO. Georgia is not a good team right now, with Gurly and their other back out, they are a pretty mediocre team IMO. South Carolina isn't a dominant team, but they are always tough. Florida State is tough to read. They really haven't beat anybody yet, but Winston looks unreal thus far. Waiting for them to play a good team. All that to say I think FSU is their toughest game and then Mizzou. Florida fans could be in for a rough ride here.

Considering Mizzou is undefeated I would have to go with them should they win.

At gametime, it probably won't be 60, but it won't be cold.

Statistically speaking, weather doesn't impact scoring either way.

Psychologically speaking, it can cause a team from Florida to simply mail it in.

I like our chances either way. This game is a coin flip, but I think we will be fired up whereas Florida is likely to roll over if we hit them early.

I don't necessarily believe that we are the superior team, but I believe that we are the more motivated team.

I'm seeing 53 degrees and breezy at kickoff. Looks like 0% chance of rain if a forecast can be believed four days in advance.

I said it in an earlier post....there is way too much talent around him that needs to step up and support him. The O-line needs to make sure to hold that block just a little longer....the receivers need to remember to come back to the ball if he is in trouble and scrambling or throws short...the RB trio needs to help him recognize things he may not think about.

This is where you see if this is a team that plays together as one great functioning unit....yes, he will make mistakes that Franklin might not have, but everyone around him needs to step up and minimize the effects of the mistakes where possible.

That's just not true. The ball picks up moisture, which makes it harder to throw for both distance and accuracy. A slicker ball is easier to fumble. It's harder to throw a ball accurately in windy conditions, and it's significantly harder to kick field goals. A cold ball is also heavier in colder conditions because the air inside the football is denser. The ball will also travel a shorter distance when kicked. This is true across all sports.

Yours discusses yardage. Here is the same source on scoring. Home teams score slightly more. Visitors score slightly less.

Tyler Murphy has played better than Driskel, who was terrible.

I'm not sure Matt Jones is/was our best offensive player. Kelvin Taylor is a stud. The issue is our OL has played like garbage.

Losing Dominique Easley hurt. He was playing outstanding and was definitely one of the best DL-men in the country. Also the leader of that group. Our D is still nails and the secondary is stout, but we are a little weak at LB and haven't produced much pass rush.
