I'm shopping for a 52" LCD WS HDTV. Need advice.

Here's the one that establishes the Criteria:

http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/nav...=5&item=403233

Phase 2 of the researc = Finding other viable brands that measure up to this in quality and features while less expensive.

Is there such an animal that you can recommend?

Man, you Samsung guys are beginning to turn me. I loved what I read about their 650. Additional attraction for me is the reddish black frame. Looks cool.

Or, you could just buy a plasma and not have to worry about motion blur.

Bought the Samsung 52' 650 6 weeks ago and it's really a great picture.

Best-Buy price matched Amazons $1899 deal.

Couldn't be happier...

The sales guy originally said they don't match internet/Amazon prices.

Convinced him I was willing to buy from Amazon, mentioned the free delivery and no taxes by going that way and he decided he wanted to make a sale.

It required an approval from the store manager, but it was worth it. Not sure what the Amazon price is these days...

I got the sense that between the poor economy and that fact that the 2009/10 Samsungs are hitting the shelves, they were ready to make a deal.

Be ready to walk away.

Good luck.

I read that the LED's have a very narrow viewing angle and that if you move one seat away it diminishes the picture? Did you buddy have anything to say about that?

I like what I read about the picture and other advanced features of the LED, and I might wait until the prices comes down a bit on them before I purchase my big screen, but I need a little better viewing angle than just right int front of it.

Below is what I mentioned above:

http://www.practical-home-theater-gu...l.html#led-lcd

LED backlighting enjoys a number of advantages over LCD panels using cold-cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFL), with the most significant being:

improved picture performance that is similar to CRTs with extremely deep blacks and quoted dynamic contrast ratios in the region of 1,000,000:1,

reduced power consumption,

longer life that is typical twice that of CCFL based models, and

in the case of LED backlights such as the Sony Triluminos using separate red, green, and blue LEDs, it is possible to get improved color rendering that is more true to life. Using separate color LED light sources to produce the three different primary colors gives a finer control over the exact light frequencies required to produce the three primary colors.

Nothing is perfect! The way LED backlight LCD panel technology is presently being implemented by these major TV display manufactures means that the 1000 or so individual LEDs used in these backlight systems are far from enough to correspond to the individual pixels forming the image.

This means that the local dimming technology - no matter how selective it is - can never correspond to the exact requirements of the individual pixels forming the image. In other words, local dimming, while responsible for the extreme black levels of LED LCD TVs, yet it also produces a sort of a subtle halo effect instead of pure blackness in dark areas adjacent to bright parts of an image. This is due to light spilling over from light to adjacent dark areas in the image.

Another issue that appears to be common among all LED LCD HDTVs and that emerged in all LED LCD HDTV reviews we encountered so far, is that their picture deteriorates at a much faster rate with off-angle viewing than in the case LCD panels using standard backlight systems. The deterioration is such that even moving just a single seat on either side of the optimum center viewing position leads to washed out colors and a worsening of the halo effect already referred to above.
