Putting down the bottle.

How many of you have done this? I'm starting to notice a pattern of me screwing shit up in my life and there always seems to be something involved.

Alcohol

I love drinking

But I'm sick of screwing up relationships and generally being a dumbass.

How many of you have done this? I feel like it's time (at least for a while) to cut the booze out of my life.

Any advice on what to do other than spend my weekend wasted drunk?

What kind of relationship have you screwed up because of alcohol? Why weren't they important enough to have you try quitting sooner? Have you tried quitting before?

I hardly find myself drinking anymore.

Used to love the bar scene a lot. I was never really one to drink at home. When I drank it was always when I was going out. Wasted a lot of money doing that, but always looked at drinking at home being pretty depressing.

Weed is just so much better. It's not even up for discussion it just is. Thank God for places like Colorado. Everyone in Breckenridge was just so damn happy and friendly when I was there 3 wks ago.

Now I can't stand going out to bars unless it's for an occasion or something. Little things now seem to piss me off being out at bars and prob wouldn't have done so 5-6yrs ago. Guess it's just me getting older. I've taken up smoking though I guess as a replacement. Do that just about nightly unless there's something going on. There's nothing better than watching late night TV or a movie w/ a little green. Get a large chocolate shake from Sonic and it's even better. Much better than drinking beer IMO.

Another thing I noticed is that I can't drink for shit anymore. Yeah I know....PUSSY..right? Well it's kinda true. I can't..just don't have the booze tolerance flying skyrocket high these days. Hangovers last a hell of a lot longer...used to be a few hours the next morning or at worst into the afternoon. Now they're damn near 2 full entire days, and the 3rd day is just an exhaustion day, from my body recovering from the last 2 days. So they're bad now. Which if there's any deterrent that's better its you're own body telling your dumbass to stop it. Used to be able to go out and get hammered Wed thru Sat night and then drink all day Saturdays and Sundays during football games. and I'd be fine Monday. Now if I get drunk...not hammered but just drunk, I'll feel like death the next entire day and into the next.

Mainly women stuff.. My relationships with the opposite sex tend to not make it past the first month. Typically due to me doing something stupid while drunk.

I've tried to give up the hard booze and stick with beer (I like the taste of beer) but that was a joke. A few beers always turns into shots and shots lead to blacking out, stupid decisions and general jackassery.

I drink too much, no doubt about it, but heres a few things I don't do...

Almost never get "fighty" when drinking, I've seen too much of it and refuse to be that way... I just wanna have a good time.

If I know I've had too many, I will NOT talk on the phone... don't wanna embarrass myself, even though I'm pretty good about diction/not slurring if I try.

If I have to get plastered on a work night, I make sure it starts EARLY so I can eat and get to bed in plenty of time to wake up workable.

NEVER discuss serious issues when drinking, EVER... its pointless and cheapens the seriousness of the issue at hand.

While not proud of it, I have told women "I love this, that and the other thing about you"... but NEVER "I love YOU"... big difference.

Never drink before noon unless on vacation or other extreme circumstances.

Those are just a few Golden Rules.

Yeah. I'd say that.

My job is alright. I wouldn't call it a career, but it keeps the bills paid. There aren't a lot of better paying jobs for us un-college educated simpletons in Larryville.

The best opportunities in my life I messed up because of alcohol, civilian flight school, military flight school, ROTC at Texas A & M and Missouri State, United States Military Academy Preparatory School for the United States Military Academy, Special Forces Training. My military career, Which I'm still in. 31 years. But have taken off and put on more stripes than a zebra and have been kicked out twice only to be called back in. Civilian jobs I have lost include Avionics Engineer on the Flight Line for Cessna, Gas Turbine Control Systems Engineer for General Electric and Rolls Royce, Control Systems Engineer on the Anhydrous ammonia pipeline, Scada engineer for Spectra Energy and numerous more. Tons of relationships. God, I'm glad I don't drink no more I was running out of companies.

That really sucks. Random drug tests suck. I understand if it's for operating, piloting, driving type jobs, and the liability that comes with that, but for most day to day office jobs? Waste of time IMO. I think a company has a right to test you if they have reason to believe you're on something while you're on the job or you work suffers or you're causing harm/preventing someone else or something form being done because of your behavior. And if that's the case, if it's already gone that far you've probably received multiple warnings or at least the writings on the wall and if you're stupid enough to just be ****ed up out of your mind while you're at work then you probably don't deserve to have a job there. I mean there has to be some sort of level of responsibility here. Why would you want to get stoned or drunk, go to work and **** up because you're ****ed up, and then it causes a shit storm, the company suffers in a way because of it, and when they suffer you're not getting any raises or promotions so what's it worth doing it? Wait til you get home.

But a random drug test? I view that the same way as I do DWI checkpoints I think they should be illegal, which they should be according to our constitution but we have corrupt judges.
