Kirksville Hit by Tornado
I have just been informed that Kirksville's been hit by a tornado - apparently on the north side of town.

I don't know much - just got a post on facebook. Apparently the Chevy dealership on the north end of town has been nuked, along with several houses in that area.

I don't know where seclark lives, or any of our other Kirksville area people. Hopefully they will check in soon.

Weather Channel said one confirmed fatality in Adair Co. and many many injuries. People reported trapped in debris north of Kv. Novinger bottoms had lots of damage too, and on over west of Novinger along 149 South my brothers house and a neighbors were destroyed.

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – A tornado ripped through Kirksville, Mo. Wednesday night, killing at least one person and injured several others.

Kirksville emergency officials say the twister destroyed or damaged at least a dozen homes in the northeastern part of the city.

An auto dealership also suffered significant damage.

Crews also worked to contain a leaking gas tank Wednesday night.

Emergency officials were asking residents to stay clear of all highways, especially U.S. Highway 63 so emergency crews can get in and out of the city.

An emergency operations center has been activated.

According to the Associated Press, several people were trapped in their basements.

A helicopter was scouring the area, looking for any of the victims who may be trapped under debris.

A tornado watch remains in effect in Kirksville until 10 p.m.

City of Kirksville Press Release
(Kirksville, MO) -- The E911 Dispatch Center has received reports of four tornados that touched down in Adair County this evening. Two of these cells were located near Novinger and were reported at approximately 5:48 pm. An additional tornado was reported in Kirksville at approximately 6:00 pm. The Fourth tornado was reported in the Troy Mills area.

The tornado in Kirksville touched down in the general area of Industrial Road and continued through Jim Robertson’s and to the general area of Bobwhite Drive. There have been numerous reports of substantial damage in the immediate area of this storm path. At this time, The City of Kirksville has not received any reports of fatalities and an few reports of minor injuries associated with this storm.

The Local Emergency Planning Commission activated the Emergency Operation Center at approximately 6:15 pm. All emergency personnel that have been called into service should report to the Department of Public Safety at Truman State University, Franklin Street.

Highway 63/Baltimore has been closed from the intersection of Baltimore and Highway 6 West to Highway T. The public is advised to stay clear of the area. There are power lines down and emergency personnel are on-site.
If you need emergency assistance, please call 911. Citizens may also call 660-627-1237 or 660-627-6934 to report damage.
