Biting the dust

My old Gateway is finally biting the big one...torn between getting an Apple or just a new PC...any advice? Also is it worth going to a local shop that sells local peiced together units?

Apple will cost you 2.5 times what a PC would cost for similar strength technology. You are basically paying for the Apple functionality (better OS), which is a little smoother than a PC's. If cost doesn't matter, maybe a coinflip?

it's been about 2 years and my imac is still working properly. Which is a big improvement over the PC's I've owned.

With that being said, it's probably still a rip off and wouldn't recommend.

It depends what you are looking for and how tech savvy you are. Like Bump said, Mac/Apple users seem to have a smoother experience, but the cost is quite insane. If you know what you are doing then another PC shouldn't be a problem. It's really up to you and your budget.
