Website owners may I pick your brain?
I am looking to start a site with my own domain. What is the best way to buy a domain? What kind of add ons should I buy with it? How much will it cost if I pay some person to do the webiste for me? I can research and make a site myself, but I would rather it not look Demon-ish. I also I understand how you make different pages to link, but if someone made the site would they give me the tools to update it. What I would like to do is register a site around 20 dollars Low traffic, have someone (one of my friends) maybe on here do it for 40-50 bucks nothing crazy and then teach me what software they use to keep it updated. Any questions answered I would thank you!

Hosting and domain registry thru 1and1.com... Like $26 for 6 months I believe... If you're interested I'll post a referral link so I can get credit for it...

I didn't buy any of their add-on crap, I just used Dreamweaver. You can get it from Pirate Bay or Demonoid, and it really is simplish to use. I started fooling around with it in October of last year, and had my school's new site made by the time I graduated in May, only working an hour every other day.

The site isn't the greatest by any stretch of the imagination, but depending on what you want it for, it should work.

Also you might want to search for free templates. That will considerably ease your pain, you basically just have to put your content and pictures in. That's what I did for both of my websites. http://www.killtac.com is the other one.

I would recommend using wordpress to build your site out. It's free and there's tons of tutorials out there.

To have your site built get a very clear idea of what you want, then head over to elance.com or rentacoder.com and have folks bid on what you want made. Be sure to see their review ratings, don't accept offers from anyone that doesn't have great reviews. Make sure you have them create a mock up of your site prior to building it, which most of them should do anyway.....

For Hosting... go to http://dreamhost.com/r.cgi?192460 use promo code MTL50 Its normally $119 a year, but it knocks off $50 bucks.

Inside it has One Click Installs to install Wordpress for you. You can also host as many domain names as you want with Dreamhost. I use it for the 40+ domains that I have hosted, and works great.

Get it right, I quit several sites.

I am working on a new project that's going to be big, I'll let you know when we have the affiliate program setup. I'm telling you, this thing is gonna be huge, and we're the only people that will have a product that serves this market. (over 500,000,000 google searches a month)......

Depending on what he wants the site for, and how much traffic he's gonna get, $119/year is ridiculous. You can get it from 1and1 for only around $40. But it's only a suggestion, I don't even know what the site is for.

I set up my kids football team on ipowerweb.net. I figure that we're giong to need aplce to park blogs and pictuers for a few years, plus the auto install of Wordpress was pretty nice. I had to use techsupport and they were very helpful. Webmail, lot's of email accounts. Easy to use interface.

Use wordpress or habari or roll your own with django (if you have programming knowledge).

Host on webfaction.com (jcroft can vouch for it as well.)
