Bama Players

I came to a conclusion yesterday about Alabama players coached under Saban....

By the time they get to the NFL they are as good as they are ever going to get. I believe he taps into every bit of their potential before they leave Tuscaloosa. Saban's players rarely seem to take the next step in the NFL. I hope the Chiefs take this into consideration going forward.

I know this is random but anyone feel the same way?

Marcel Dareus is an elite DT, Eddie Lacy is a premier back, DJ Fluker has entrenched himself as San Diego's right tackle, Julio Jones is when healthy one of the NFL's best receivers, Courtney Upshaw is a vital run-stopper in Baltimore's system.

The Alabama defensive backs haven't lit the world on fire (though I expect Barron & Milliner to up their game this season), but to say that Saban's players come to the NFL already maxed out is not something that I can agree with by rule.

You can say that about almost every one of their defensive players. Dareus is the one exception.

Just looking purely on the defensive side, there isn't a single former Saban Bama player, aside from Dareus, that you can say is among the best in the league right now.

Barron is nothing special in this league.

Milliner had an abortion of a season.

Dre Kirkpatrick couldn't beat out a 30 year old Pacman Jones nor a 35 year old Terrance Newman for snaps on defense.

You listed Upshaw as a success? He was drafted to be a pass rushing OLB, the eventual replacement for Suggs, not a run stopper. The guy has 3 total sacks in 32 career games and barely managed to get half of the number of tackles in 2013 that he made his rookie season. (Dropped from 60 tackles down to 31)

Do you really need to look at Rolando McClain?

Terrence Cody is a JAG.

Javier Arenas is trash.

Kareem Jackson is average at best.

Hightower is a good run stuffer but is a 2-down player at this point due to his suckage in pass coverage.

The best Bama players in the NFL right now are mainly along the offensive line.

Andre Smith - one of the best RTs in the league but he took a while to get there due to weight issues.

DJ Fluker - Very good young RT but doesn't have the mobility to move to the left side.

Chance Warmack - Solid young guard so far in this league.

Then, of course, you have Julio Jones who is currently among the top 5 WRs in the NFL when healthy.

I bet Mosley ends up being pretty good. He was sick in college.
