Late night bullshit: tell me this isn't a Super Bowl team.

FREE AGENTS:

QB Peyton Manning

All the plotting, all the cheap value acquisitions for the past three years, letting Brandon Carr go... it's all come to a fore here. All that potential can now be capitalized by signing Manning.

This, of course, assumes Manning is healthy.

RB Mike Tolbert

Chiefs need a bigger back. Tolbert is a guy who can truly man the load. Charles serves as a perfect compliment.

WR Reggie Wayne

I believe I heard on NFL Network that Wayne will be let go by the Colts. If that's the case, as a receiver in his mid-thirties, he's looking for one-year rentals. The Chiefs, with Manning on board, are a great fit, and it gives Manning a familiar target to throw to.

C Jeff Saturday

Copy and paste the above information. Hudson will slide over to guard.

NT Paul Soliai

The Chiefs finally land their tub of lard.

FB LeRon McClain

McClain is resigned to provide Tolbert/Charles the appropriate punch.

NFL DRAFT

1. OT Riley Reiff, Iowa

Reiff is decent-enough value at #11 overall. If we've signed Manning, protecting him will be a priority. Reiff is a great technician with huge upside as a right tackle. Manning stays clean.

2. TE Orson Charles, Georgia

If Charles finds a way to fall, this is a dream acquisition for the Chiefs. Moeaki is a powerful blocker, and Maneri will be a great blocking tight end. What the team needs is a true Jimmy Graham-esque gazelle from the tight end position. Charles is also incredibly strong, and can be utilized as a blocker.

3. OLB Bruce Irvin, West Virginia

This is currently slated as a reach on most boards right now, but that's probably going to change once it's noted more widely that Irvin launched a 4.4 40 yard dash at the combine. I think Irvin's a decent talent, but you can't pass on that kind of ability, and the Chiefs badly need insurance in case Hali or Houston go down.

4. SS Winston Guy Jr., Kentucky

A pet pick of mine all winter, I think Guy would be a great depth acquisition for this secondary. Guy is a nose-for-the-ball kind of safety with some, but not a lot, of free safety flexibility. He's a sturdy run defender and strong in coverage.

5. OG/C Adam Gettis, Iowa

More Iowa talent! Gettis is a super athletic interior lineman. He's a bit light, so he'll need a year or two to come along. But he's a great depth acquisition.

6. DE Mike Daniels, Iowa

I am going very Hawkeyes intensive here, but there is no doubt that Reiff and Gettis are good fits for the Chiefs offensive line. Daniels is not as ideal of a fit for the defensive line, since he is a bit undersized at 6'1, 280 lbs. But he is a situational penetrator and a tireless worker, and of course he does come from that program that Pioli loves so much.

7. RB Montel Harris, Boston College

A bit of an undersized workhorse back, about 200 lbs. But a hard worker who comes from a great program.

3 Iowa players drafted? Jesus no. I'm ok with Reiff. But we don't need that entire team. And yeah if that team existed we would go to the Super Bowl. Too bad it won't happen.

Iowa's got a ton of talent hitting the draft this year.

Well coached, technicians. Underrated across the board.

It would be nice for Peyton to have someone he is comfortable throwing the ball to at the beginning of the season though.

Also, when's the last time a huge free agent playing team won a Super Bowl? I mean Christ, if Philly didn't put even a goddamn playoff berth together after their last talent haul, that's when you know it's a doomed strategy for team building.

I think we really ought to wait for the Redskins to finish before we make up our minds.

We only landed two big time free agents in this scenario.

McClain, Wayne, Saturday... are all role players.
