Chiefs Will Charles hold out for a better contract? - Page 6

Jamal is going to be paid a paltry $2.5 million in 2014. Thats not a typo. $2.5 million. One of the best running backs with 2-3 years left of prime time in his career..........I'm sure his agent is whispering in his ear. The Chiefs know its an insulting salary to pay one of the best RB's in the league.

You can say he signed it, play the contract out. But, its the real world.

NFL RB's that hold out always, always get their money. The template is clear. If Charles would set out a year, he loses $2.5 Million. You think he doesn't make that up in a new contract next year.

Anyone want to bet that the Chiefs give Charles a new contract this off season to avoid a nasty contract fight?

You can find these threads about LJ, also. Anyone suggesting after the 2006 season that LJ would probably be good trade bait or not worth a big deal was called a reerun, because as Charles is now, LJ was the offense.

I know Charles is a much different (and better) player to LJ but there are some lessons worth learning when it comes to paying RBs.

He won't hold out and was extended to a very good deal before the team needed to. He made a lot of money over the last 4 years (for any running back).

Also, players really can't hold out anymore. They get fined an absurd amount per day for doing so. Dude signed a deal and knew there would be a low dollar amount in certain years. Play it out.

It just isn't logical at this point, any way you slice it.

It isn't hard to find "good" runners in the NFL, but we all know Jamaal is light years beyond good. Knile Davis seems to be pretty good and he averages more than a full YPC less than Charles.

Plus, we still basically have an unknown at QB. We can't get rid of our best offensive player without knowing that Alex can consistently carry the offense.

I'd be open to trading Jamaal after this next season provided the terms were right. And by right I'm talking heavily in our favor.. Even then, I'd hate to see him leave.

With no money and guys we must take care of so we can keep them. It does not seem possible for this team to improve much. I doubt we get any solid FA's.

I absolutely love Jamaal Charles but if we got a Hershal Walker esq trade then go for it.

I'd also be happy not to trade him so it would have to be a very favorable deal.

Charles is awesome, but he's at his apex right now. In fact this past season may have been his peak. He deserves more money based on his production though and the Chiefs know it so is a bit of a connundrum.

Even if Charles is at 90% next year, a fair enough percentage... seeing what a quick healer he is, knowing what a once in a generation talent he is... how can anyone want to part ways so SOON.

We arent talking about some Chris Johnson flash in the pan, we're talking about a TOP 3 MINIMUM back in the NFL for the next 2-3 years... homeruns, three yard gotta haves, blocks well, is becoming a FAULK-like receiving threat...

There isnt a number one pick anywhere in the next two drafts at a minimum who're worth that... his skills arent inherently born in ANY back, that combination of talent and football IQ has to be learned.

I doubt it, He's not the prototypical RB that Reid is looking for...

That may be the dumbest thing I've read on this site.

Charles is the prototypical RB for this system and there probably isn't a RB in the league who's skill set matches it more perfectly. He just put up 2,000 yards from scrimmage and 19 TDs in just 15 games in his first season in Reid's offense.

Well, yeah.

There isn't a player on our roster I wouldn't trade for that kind of draft haul.

Dallas got 3 firsts, 3 seconds and a third rounder for Walker and a pair of third rounders.
