So, what are our chances of winning the division?

Did you see that juggernaut out there?

That Denver team is way better than last year's version. Manning is better. Their receivers are better. Without three of their most important defenders from last season, the Donkey defense turned Joe Flacco into a shit-eating rape monkey.

That team is a serious Super Bowl contender.

What are we?

Manning is like a Top 5 QB in the history of the goddamn league. The Chiefs can draft 20 QBs in the first round in a row, chances are none of them will be as good as Manning.

So -- how Manning being amazing has any reflection on what the Chiefs are trying to do is beyond me.
Manning being amazing is absolutely a reflection on the Chiefs. While Denver is "settling" for Manning, who by the by they got for no compensation to Indy, the Chiefs are settling for Alex Smith at the cost of two 2nd round picks. Our franchise can't figure out the QB position because they simply ignore the best way to obtain a great QB. Manning, Montana level FAs don't come around very often, but the Chiefs have certainly made a habit out of paying for mediocre players like they are the Mannings or Montanas of the world.

This argument is making less and less sense as we go along.

The Chiefs ACTUALLY LANDED Montana.

And the Chiefs were in the Manning sweepstakes, were we not?

Our options this offseason were: Alex Smith, Matt Cassel, Kevin Kolb, Matt Flynn, Carson Palmer, Geno Smith, and EJ Manuel -- were they not?

Clay in OP: The Broncos value the QB position properly, and the Chiefs don't. Just look at our odds this season!

Direckshun: Alex Smith, for all his faults, gives us the best chance to win this season.

Clay: Yeah, but what about next season?
The OP is purely about our chances of winning the division this season.

They are virtually nil, which is hilarious considering some of the posts spent on laughing at Peyton Manning this offseason.

I would have been more understanding with a rookie QB. Expectations would have been lower.

Now? lol

Sure hope we can get that wild card! Whee!

Well, we gave up essentially 2 2nd rounders before anything even happened, so I have no idea.

Personally, I don't like carson palmer, but I think he's a better pure quarterback. There's dispute right there. More importantly, **** Palmer, who else could we have had for 2 2nd rounders? Every other vet up there was was gotten for a late round pick, I believe.

Mocking an opponent's QB is not exactly breaking news, but yeah, the idea that Manning was going to suck this year showcases a fundamental misunderstanding of why Manning is a Top 5 QB in the league's history.

I still have absolutely no idea what your argument is, Clay. I am befuddled.

You are criticizing the Chiefs for getting the QB that gives them the best chance to win this season, and openly admitting that expectations to win this year are actually lower with Smith or Manuel.

I just don't get it. I guess I'm stupid.

Along with the other rookies, yes. And that's exactly the damn point. The Chiefs have yet again ignored the best way to get a good quarterback. "Alex Smith is the best option for this year though!" Horseshit. Alex Smith is, was, and will never be the best option to win a championship. Rookies will assuredly have their struggles, but if you develop them you will always have a chance to compete. Give a rookie two or three years to develop and by then Manning would be on his way out the door and we'd have a legitimate QB for the first time in forever. Instead, we chose to pick up Alex Smith as a win-now measure, who will now be going against Peyton ****ing Manning. We don't have a chance in hell

So your entire argument hinges on the idea that Palmer > Alex Smith.

Non sequitor. Your second sentence does not support your first sentence.

Steelers are the class of the AFC, they'll likely go championship.

Manning's division to lose, here. point one percent chance the Chiefs do it -- though I voted 10/40... once you are below 40 % it doesn't really matter what the number is.

The point is: Alex Smith was a waste of our time. He's not getting past Manning.

We should have invested in a QB who had a chance to be good post-Manning.

Peyton looked great, but you know what didnt? Their run game is much much weaker than the Chiefs. Charles, Gray, Davis is really gonna be something this year. Denver is a passing team, Yes I thinkthe Chiefs will pass, but their run game is what is gonna slow alot of other teams down. Chiefs have as good a chance as anyone in the division. Alex will be very solid and very smart.

Alex Smith was brought here to win a championship. He is allegedly the QB Reid has wanted since he was originally drafted in the league. Therefore, Alex is the best option to win now. "Winning now" says to me that Reid wants to compete for the division, playoffs, and a superbowl. Alex Smith cannot compete against Peyton Manning in any of those regards. My second sentence fully supports the first. Horseshit.
