I've only played through the first disk but I like it. It's the first JRPG I've every really played believe it or not. I guess it's pretty standard JRPG stuff. Linear with a lot of cutscenes, random turn based battles. I liked the story that I had seen though. There's some dream/memory sequences that are really good and actually touching sometimes.

Last JRPG i played was Skies of Arcadia on the dreamcast. I've read a lot of good things about this game. I'll be picking it up this weekend.

Yep, I agree. I really like it. Haven't quite finished it yet, but I'll get around to it. I think it's underrated. People complain about the fact that it's linear, and turn based... but if those things don't bother you... it's great.

It's a real throw-back to the Final Fantasy games.

Are the "random" turn based battles random like if your standing still for a few minutes, a battle will start. This was the case for a number of the older JRPGs... and i HATE that. Those time-triggered battles are ridiculous.
Granted it does help you level up faster...

Nope... you have to be moving.

so the battles are dependent on when you cross an area/path.. not a given time.

I believe it's completely random, other than bosses. If you stand in one place, you'll never fight.... but if you're walking there's always a chance of a random encounter. (and you can't see the mobs on-screen before the encounter starts)

At least you got a good run out of it. 2 years is pretty good on the old models. Sorry to hear it though. Now my son won't have anyone to play GHIII with.

Hopefully i'll get one of the new falcon units for replacement. I'd hate to go through this in another year.
I have my dreamcast and PS2 to hold me over the next few weeks.

I'll bust out Resident Evil Code Veronica and Shadows of the Colossus.
